Tripadvisor data is showing that Aussies are psyched about travelling internationally for the Summer! As of last week, 21% of Australians are booking international stays, which is more than double the share we saw pre-lockdown (back then, only 9% of Australians intended to travel internationally).
Diving into our data and insights, here are some interesting travel trends we’re seeing in Australia this year:
- Timing is everything. The most popular check in dates from now until the end of the year are 11 October (yay Freedom Day!), 30 November and 16 December
- When it comes to hotels, Aussie travellers are searching most for clean (COVID-19 safe) hotels and hotels with balconies
- In terms of amenities, pools, restaurants and bars are popping
- The most popular hotel styles Aussies are searching for are family and mid-range hotels
- Experiences are a must do after being stuck at home for so long. Whitsunday Bullet Day Trip, Litchfield National Park and Jumping Crocodile Cruise and the Great Barrier Reef Snorkeling and Diving Cruise from Cairns are the most popular experiences
While beach resorts have always been a hot favourite for post-COVID holidays, city trips are gaining popularity as well! Here are the top 10 domestic and international destinations Australians have been searching for:
