Shiratani Unsuikyou Ravine

Being at home for prolonged periods may dampen our spirits, so feel the healing power of the millennia-old cedar forest of Shiratani Unsuikyou Ravine – it is the inspiration for Studio Ghibli’s beloved anime, “Princess Mononoke”.

Located off Kagoshima, Yakushima Island’s ancient moss-covered forest is best explored on the Taikoiwa Rock Course trail.

The four-hour hike rewards you with a breathtaking view of this otherworldly ravine painted in myriad hues of green that make this forest so magical – a perfect antidote to spending too much time at home.
