Original woodchipper prop from Fargo movie
1. Fargo – ‘north of normal’
Fargo is well-known for its lack of crowds and open countryside, along with its exciting culture, tasty food, and friendly locals. Looking for an urban outdoor adventure? Go on a real-life treasure hunt with the official GeoTour of Fargo-Moorhead where one of the largest caches in the country is waiting to be found! Movie lovers should venture to the Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Center to see the original movie prop from the famous Fargo movie woodchipper murder scene. This quirky stop is the perfect place to take a photo with the legendary prop - friendly locals will give you a trapper hat to wear while you pretend to push a fake leg into the Fargo chipper.

Maah Daah Hey Trail
2. Scenic byways and hiking trails
In North Dakota, you will find countless open roads providing traffic-free travel along its wonderful scenic byways and many wide-open spaces with hiking trails. Summer marks the ideal time to go fishing, hiking and horse riding at Little Missouri Park along the Killdeer Mountain Four Bears Scenic Byway. Another summer hidden gem is the 144-mile Maah Daah Hey Trail which contains breathtaking rugged terrain with plateaus, jagged peaks, and rivers. Explore the trail by hiking, cycling, or horse-riding and keep an eye out for deer, antelope, prairie dogs, golden eagles, red tail hawks, and bighorn sheep.

Enchanted Highway
3. Enchanted Highway
North Dakota’s unique Enchanted Highway showcases one of the world’s largest collection of scrap metal sculptures including geese, deer, pheasants, grasshoppers, Theodore Roosevelt, and a Tin Family. This quirky roadside art tour begins at Exit 72 on I-94 near Gladstone and finishes in the quaint town of Regent. Once in Regent, head to the gift shop to buy your favourite souvenir miniature displays of each statue.

Ask a local: find the speakeasy at Humpback Sally’s restaurant, Bismarck
Dream about heading to the hidden speakeasy 510.2 at Humpback Sally’s restaurant in Bismarck for a vibrant 1920s-esque atmosphere and one of the best cocktail lists you’ll find in western USA. Watch live entertainment performed on the speakeasy’s intimate stage while savouring small plates, craft cocktails, beer, and wine.
