During the early days of World War 2 it was bombed and left abandoned until the late 1970s. The buildings historical significance was recognized and it was registered as a historical building in 1976. It served as the provincial hall until 1980. The building was restored between 1990 and 1994 and has been a branch of the National Library of Thailand in honour of H.M. Queen Sirikit since 1994. In 1997 the Library had the honour of being named Thailand's best-conserved building.
The Library collects, preserves and organizes national intellectual property heritage books, newspapers, and government records. These are mainly written in Thai, though there is a small Engish book section. There is a group of pictorial books on the King and several computers for the public to use.

The Library provides reading, studying and researching services so that people can expand their knowledge. There are sections in the Library covering Science, Technology, Arts and Culture.
The Library has mainly Thai traditional books, with some ancient manuscripts, stone inscriptions, printed materials, audio-visual materials and electronic materials produced inside and outside of Thailand.
I was intrigued by 300 year old writings written on leaves that were bound together and were being translated and preserved. The Library is open Tuesdays to Saturdays 9am to 5pm.
