A new ten-day festival, created by Artistic Director Leo Schofield AM, Sydney Sings, will see the Harbour city soar to the sound of music with life performances of music from local and international choirs, chamber groups and soloists at venues across the city.
Sydney Sings is an entirely new festival celebrating singing in all its many and varied manifestations, from Bach to beatbox, from massed choirs with orchestra to unaccompanied soloists, performing vocal repertoire that will range from classical to jazz.
Sydney Sings will showcase the finest Australian and international vocal talent with a program or more than 40 performances over 11 days from 28 July to 7 August, with the majority exclusive to Sydney Sings.
NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said “Sydney Sings will be a spectacular celebration of voice with performances across the city from the CBD to Western Sydney.
“The NSW Government is proud to have secured Sydney Sings through our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, and we expect more than 11,000 visitors will travel to Sydney for the festival, delivering $5 million in visitor expenditure for NSW.”
The inaugural event will be held in over a dozen different venues across the CBD and Western Sydney
It will showcase all genres of vocal performance from musical theatre, to choirs, folk and world music and solo performances with more than 700 performers expected to participate, bringing more than 700 performers from countries including the US, UK, Russia, Scotland, Italy, South Africa and Austria to Sydney.
Sydney Sings is set to inspire and delight with surprise performances and spontaneous fun across the city!
