Representatives of Xiamen Airlines recently joined NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres and Destination NSW CEO Sandra Chipchase at NSW Parliament House to celebrate the partnership between Xiamen and the Australian Badminton Open.
Tournament organisers were also present, as well as local Chinese travel operators. The Xiamen Airlines Australian Badminton Open will run from 8-12 June this year, with another world-class field expected to head to Sydney to compete. The Open is a Badminton World Federation World Superseries event, one of just 12 Superseries events held globally each year.
The event showcases Sydney throughout the Asia-Pacific, with last year’s tournament broadcast to over 300 million households across more than 14 countries.
The partnership between the Australian Badminton Open and Xiamen Airlines comes after the recent announcement of the Memorandum of Understanding between Destination NSW and Xiamen Airlines, which sees five Xiamen Airlines flights arrive at Sydney Airport each week.
