SYDNEY-BASED FEATURE FILM TO SHOWCASE HARBOUR CITY

Destination NSW is a proud to have supported the Sydney-based filming of Ruben Guthrie, the screen adaptation of Brendan Cowell’s acclaimed stage play, of the same name, about the highly successful Creative Director of a Sydney advertising agency, who has it all until he suffers a spectacular fall from grace.

Produced by Kath Shelper, the Sydney-based filming of Ruben Guthrie took place in a number of well-known Sydney spots including Bondi Beach, Tamarama and Rose Bay.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase said: “Destination NSW is always looking for unique and interesting ways to promote Sydney and Regional NSW destinations and when completed Ruben Guthrie will showcase a number of Sydney locations, and NSW experiences, to an international film audience.”

Ruben Guthrie is packed with Australian talent, from creator and director Brendan Cowell, to Patrick Brammall in the title role, as well as supporting roles by international rising star Brenton Thwaites, supermodel Abby Lee, Robyn Nevin and Jack Thompson.

Initially showcased in 2009 by Company B at Sydney’s Belvoir Street Theatre, Ruben Guthrie has been described as a brutally honest, no-nonsense and uniquely Australian comedy about work, family and the pitfalls of excess.

Brendan Cowell’s Ruben Guthrie has previously been nominated for an AWGIE Stage Award, the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards – Play Award, and the Sydney Theatre Awards – Best new Australian Work.
