Li and Miao Minority Village

Li and Miao Minority Village is located 28 km from Sanya, 49 km from Baoting Country in China. The lush garden is planted with betel nut trees, a native plant to Hainan Island. Betel nut, also known as Pinang or Areca nut, is the seed of the Betel Palm. The tall palm with shallow roots that looks similar to the coconut tree. It has a significant bearing to Li and Miao Minority people. They describe it as a beauty and slim girl. To chew betel nut fruits has become the habit of some natives as it can refresh their mind. Under these beautiful palm trees, you can not miss the handsome boy and charming girl who are ready for the Bamboo Dance. Here you will have a chance to see the real minority costume and entry their old style hamlets. The Hamlets are divided into different type according to the marriage status, for an unmarried young girl, there always will be one separated clay-made hamlet waiting for them. It is very interesting because the girls like those boys with good tree-climbing abilities.

It comprises three major features: the primitive Li Minority village, the ecological Miao Minority village, and tropical jungle, ranking as one of the most important tourist attractions on Hainan and is among its top ten scenic spots.

Li and Miao Minority Village is located 49 km from Baoting Country, and the village is filled with betel nut trees, a native plant to Hainan Island. During your visit, an amazing and incredible “Fire and Knife” performance by Miao people will be presented as well.

On the immense grounds of this village is a 1.2-kilometre series of stairs and walkways following the waterfalls flowing through the dense greenery and dramatic landscape. Native rainforest in the park gives visitors a sense of physical and spiritual isolation from the worries of the world. Natural hot springs is another leisure resort as it can be enjoyed in private spas on the decks of some five-star property set villas.

Li and Miao Minority Village can be called “Binglanggu”in Chinese (Ganza Ridge Primitive Culture Scenic Spot) for short.It is a multi-culture, multi-ethnic spot which blends tourism, recreation and cultural exhibition. It is one of the most important tourist attractions on Hainan and is among its top ten scenic spots. Total tourists each year exceeds 6 million (among which 50,000 are foreigners). As the unique resort that takes protecting, rescuing and expanding Hainan indigenous culture as its responsibility, the villagers persist in being the watcher of this mysterious jungle in order to pass on the essence of the group’s culture from generation to generation.

Notes on Tickets:Ticket fare: 143RMB, covering the previous Ganza Li village, primitive Miao village, previous three parts of the mysterious rainforest and ropeway, battery truck, price regulation fund, insurance, etc. Remarks: Kids below 1.2 m and the elderly over 70 years are free to enter while a half discount is available for kids between 1.2 m and 1.4m.

For fun or for experience, you can try their traditional wedding ceremony at extra charge. They said the Li Minorities are more friendly and docile than Miao Minorities. Believe it or not, you will find out when you enter some part of this garden, Miao people are somewhat hidden from you, you will be told by the guide that once you meet Miao People, you have to shout “HoHa, Hoha,Hoha” at least three times, the more often, the better, or you will be "shot"(haha just a warning shot) by Miao. As a special treat, Miao people will present you with an amazing and incredible “Fire and Knife” performance. It will take about 3 hours to tour through the whole garden. It is very much worth a visit once you are in Sanya.
