CELEBRATING 59 YEARS OF THE COONAMBLE RODEO AND CAMPDRAFT

Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries is encouraging locals and visitors get set for another year of explosive and skilful horsemanship and a great social atmosphere at the Coonamble Rodeo and Campdraft this June long weekend.

The biggest event of its kind in the southern hemisphere, the 59th Coonamble Rodeo and Campdraft sees more than $30,000 in prize money up for grabs across steer wrestling, calf roping, barrel racing, saddle bronc, bare back and bull riding competitions.

A campdraft competition also takes place over the three days, with around 1,000 different horses taking part and highlighting the skills and horsemanship of the participants who cut individual cattle from a mob before guiding them around the course.

“As Coonamble’s biggest annual event, and one that attracts competitors and spectators from across NSW and further afield, the Rodeo and Campdraft is a key community event and one that is important to the local economy,” Mr Humphries said.

“The event is a celebration of country and community life in NSW, with community groups including Coonamble Rotary, Coonamble Pony Club and the Coonamble Senior League providing food and drinks, and the Coonamble Rodeo Association, an unpaid volunteer committee, responsible for the great program of rodeo events.

“I congratulate everyone involved in putting on the three day event, and I look forward to welcoming visitors to the Coonamble Showground for another fantastic June long weekend,” he said.
