Sydney Set To Uncover Karoke Sensations

Sydney will move to the beats of contemporary Asian pop in January, with the City of Sydney’s 2014 Chinese New Year Festival promising another highly anticipated karaoke competition.

Now in its fifth year, the karaoke competition offers fans of Mandarin Pop (Mando-Pop), Japanese Pop (J-Pop) and Korean Pop (K-Pop) the chance to battle it out for the title of Sydney’s karaoke champion.

Entrants will be in the running to win a range of great prizes, with all finalists given the chance to showcase their musical talent in front of hundreds of fans at the Chinese New Year Markets in Belmore Park.

“Whether you’re just having fun with friends or on the track to international stardom, our annual karaoke competition is the place to be,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.

The competition will have a series of heats, with 16 finalists selected to perform on the main stage in front of a panel of judges and a live audience at the Chinese New Year Markets on Saturday 25 January.

There are a range of major prizes up for grabs, including:

• One night’s accommodation in the Astral Room at The Star
