Captain Cook Cruises, part of the SeaLink Travel Group have become one of the first Australian businesses to accept Union Pay cards – the most popular payment brand in China – through its online booking engine.
The move further strengthens the company’s relationship with the Chinese market and growing tourism in Australia.
Captain Cook Cruises has set up one of the first websites in Australia that is able to accept UnionPay cards for any of its Sydney Harbour dining and sightseeing cruises, a move that Captain Cook Cruises believes was inevitable to cater for the company’s ever growing and important Chinese market.
“Every day we are trying to find ways to better accommodate the Chinese visitor and provide them more choices to enhance and deliver great harbour dining and sightseeing experiences,” said Richard Doyle, Head of International Sales and Marketing for Captain Cook Cruises and SeaLink.
“The Chinese market accounts for some 15 per cent of our total International market and with 3.5 billion cardholders globally using this card, we believe offering the most popular card as a form of payment will make travelling so much easier and attract even more Chinese passengers.”
“The step to offer Union Pay cards as a payment form adds to the way Captain Cook Cruises accommodates the Chinese market, already having Chinese language pages and collateral about the current menus on their website, making it easier for the Chinese visitor to make an informed decision. Chinese consumers can also interact with us via our Weibo page too,” Mr Doyle said.
“This forms part of our integrated strategy to deliver high quality and value for money experiences and ensure our Chinese guests return home as satisfied customers. It also enables Chinese tourists to use their UnionPay card to buy our cruises in their local currency, which is then automatically converted into Australian dollars with no currency surcharge”.
