Entries are now open for Queensland’s biggest bike ride – the Santos GLNG Brisbane to the Gold
Coast Cycle Challenge.
More than 10,000 cyclists are expected to take part in the 100km charity fundraising ride on Sunday 20 October. The ride kicks off with a 15km traffic-free ride along the smooth South East Busway. Organised annually by Bicycle Queensland, the event will raise money for the Heart Foundation.
Bicycle Queensland Chief Executive Officer Ben Wilson emphasised the Santos GLNG Brisbane to the Gold Coast Challenge was not a race. “The event aims to inspire more people to cycle more often,” Mr Wilson said. “To complete 100km in a day is a great achievement for any cyclist and there is also a 60km option for those who want to tackle a shorter distance.”
Santos GLNG Vice President Queensland Trevor Brown said Santos GLNG was proud to support the ride. “Over the years, more than 50,000 cyclists have participated in the ride and the fact that so many people are keen to take up this challenge is a great indicator of the increasing popularity of cycling and how many people are interested in an active and healthy lifestyle,” he said “Riding a bike is good for your health and it’s a fun recreational activity that everyone from families to corporate highfliers can enjoy. Last year over 300 Santos GLNG colleagues and their friends joined the ride and had a great time so I’d like to encourage even more people to join them this year.”
A highlight of the Santos GLNG Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge is the exclusive use of the South East Busway. “It is the only day of the year that bike s are allowed on the busway,” Mr Wilson said.
The adult early bird entry price is $75 or $65pp for teams of 10. Early bird entries close Sunday 1 September. Riders are encouraged to get sponsored and raise funds for the Heart Foundation.
