Wequassett Resort and Golf Club Adds Twenty-Eight Atlantic to Its Five- Star Legacy in Forbes Travel Guide's 2021 Star Awards
A Cape Cod tradition for generations, Wequassett is an exquisite hideaway spanning 27 pristine waterfront acres surrounded by lush gardens overlooking tranquil Pleasant Bay and the Atlantic beyond. Accommodations are housed in 27 buildings of Cape Cod-style architecture and include 120 luxurious guest rooms and suites reminiscent of comfortable seaside residences. Amenities include two magnificent pools, two private beaches, four tennis courts, five diverse restaurants, boating and sailing, children's programming, and championship golf at the prestigious Cape Cod National Golf Club.
The resort's signature restaurant, twenty-eight Atlantic, housed in an 18th century sea captain's home overlooking Pleasant Bay is one of the most stunning settings in New England. The décor of the restaurant incorporates many fine features such as an exposed wine rack, beautiful fireplace, rich wood paneling, period lighting fixtures and marine art. Noted Executive Chef, James Hackney, helms the kitchen and relishes the region's fresh native seafood and indigenous ingredients from artisanal farms. Chef Hackney is passionate about creating exquisite seasonal tasting menus with superb wine pairings.
“We are thrilled that twenty-eight Atlantic has been added to the coveted Five-Star status and very honored that the Resort has been recognized as Five-Star since 2016, a gratifying accomplishment for our talented and devoted staff. Our quest to elevate twenty-eight Atlantic's rating has been truly embraced by our entire team and I am so grateful for this distinction, particularly during such a challenging time,” said Mark Novota, Managing Partner of Wequassett Resort and Golf Club.
Forbes Travel Guide is the world-renowned expert in genuine Five-Star service, and Wequassett's signature restaurant, twenty-eight Atlantic is the latest addition to its illustrious annual Star Rating list. Properties were inspected prior to the pandemic and when regional restrictions allowed for the safe return of guests.
“We are delighted to have twenty-eight Atlantic as the sole addition to our list of Five-Star restaurants for 2021. Wequassett Resort and Golf Club offers some of the most dedicated and passionate leaders and staff in the industry, having already achieved a Five-Star rating for the hotel for the past six years. Both awards are notoriously difficult to achieve, and the restaurant honor, in particular, not only looks at service and facility but also the culinary expertise demonstrated by the chef and his brigade. Wequassett is one of just six hotels in the world to boast a Five-Star hotel and restaurant and the only one in the beautiful Cape Cod region with that title. We send our congratulations to the entire team on this significant achievement and wish everyone a successful 2021 summer season ahead,” said Filip Boyen, Chief Executive Officer of Forbes Travel Guide.

CLAUDEL is a thrilling reimagining of the story of one of the world’s greatest and most misunderstood sculptors
- “A magnificent creation” – Spectatif
- “A piece all powerful in its subtlety… a great moment of theatre to discover.” – Publik Art Review
CLAUDEL is a thrilling reimagining of the story of one of the world’s greatest and most misunderstood sculptors, Camille Claudel and her complex relationship with legendary artist, Auguste Rodin.
In an exclusive Australian premiere, from 23 April at The Playhouse, Sydney Opera House, CLAUDEL is a thrilling combination of narrative, dance, sculpture and music.
Written and directed by acclaimed playwright Wendy Beckett and Choreographed by the internationally celebrated Meryl Tankard, CLAUDEL explores the life of the highly talented and rebellious young sculptor Camille Claudel. Set in 1880s Paris, this haunting drama unflinchingly questions the notions of genius versus madness and the consequences for those who chose lives that are deemed too different for society to tolerate.
CLAUDEL directed by Wendy Beckett with choreography by Meryl Tankard first premiered in March 2018 at the historic Athénée Theatre in Paris, France followed by a limited season at Festival OFF d’Avignon.
Stage and Television Stalwart Christopher Stollery previously gracing the small screen in Frayed (ABC/Sky Comedy UK), Dom & Adrian (Easy Tiger), Top of the Lake (BBC UKTV) and stages in City of Gold(Queensland Theatre), Antony & Cleopatra (Sport for Jove) and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead(Sydney Theatre Company) joins the cast as French sculptor Auguste Rodin.
Veteran stage, film and television performer Tara Morice known for her roles in Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom (BAFTA and AFI Nominations), Dance Academy (ABC), Blue Heelers (Southern Star/Seven Network), Dance Nation (Belvoir) and Harp in The South (Sydney Theatre Company) will play Madame Claudel, mother to the admired sculptor.
Featuring a cast of some of Australia’s most acclaimed theatrical talent CLAUDEL also features Henrietta Amevor (Stan’s Bump), Mitchell Bourke (ABC/Matchbox Production’s The Heights) and recent graduate of NIDA Melissa Kahraman as Jessie.
Wendy Beckett has written over twenty-five plays and directed over forty. She is also the author of biographies, books, academic studies and radio plays written for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. A selection of her books and writings can be found among the collections of the National Library of Australia. For the last 10 years she has been creating, directing and producing her own pieces across the world.
Meryl Tankard has forged a stellar career as a director and choreographer. She has created ballet, opera and music and dance theatre for the main stages of Australia, France, Germany, the UK and USA. She was principal artist with the renowned Pina Pausch Wuppertal Dance Theatre and Artistic Director of Australian Dance Theatre for six years. More recently Meryl has focused on film and screen culture. Scenic and graphic design by Halcyon Pratt.

IHG Hotels & Resorts reveals guests' growing passion to travel better, with younger travellers leading the charge in Australia
60 per cent of the 9,000 adults surveyed across the US, UK, Germany, Greater China, the UAE and Australia agree that they want to be more environmentally and socially conscious on their travels. For Aussies, this was led by 70 per cent of younger travellers (aged 18 to 24) compared to just 39 per cent of those 55 and over.
It appears travellers not only intend to do more for the planet and communities around them, they are willing to pay for it too. The research found that global consumers will spend an average of 31 per cent more on accommodation they know operates responsibly – with 51 per cent happy to fork out more than 20 per cent extra a night. And Down Under, younger Aussies are again leading the charge. While the average Aussie young adult would be prepared to part with up to 34 per cent more money for green accommodation, 55 and overs would only pay an extra 13 per cent.
Community first: Guests connecting with purpose
With the world travelling more locally – or not at all – right now, it seems the pandemic has made consumers more mindful about preserving and connecting with the communities around them. Almost 6 in 10 Aussies say they care more about doing their bit for local communities and the planet while travelling now than they did 10 years ago (57 per cent globally). In fact, following the pandemic, more than half of Australian adults (55 per cent) are more likely to be mindful of supporting local communities when travelling, and 58 per cent will be more mindful of dining out and supporting local businesses.86 per cent of Aussies say it is important to get to know the local community when visiting somewhere new – a finding consistent across the globe. With 80 per cent doing this by supporting local eateries, followed by shopping locally (77 per cent) and speaking with the locals (69 per cent). A further 3 in 10 (31 per cent) of young Aussies aged 18-24 choose to stay with travel companies that offer local community programs. Interestingly, younger travellers are also almost four times as likely to get involved with volunteering when visiting somewhere new compared to the 55 and overs (23% compared to 6%, respectively).
Travelling better for a sustainable future
The appetite for better, greener travel is ripe. An incredible 86 per cent of Aussie adults say they are committed to taking their everyday sustainable habits with them when they travel – compared to 82 per cent globally – with using the correct waste and recycling disposal for different items taking the top spot as the number one habit (81 per cent). And it seems sustainability doesn't need to take a backseat on holidays. Hotels are a welcome spot to do better: when asked what Aussies have ever done on their travels to be more responsible, walking short distances to explore the local area and re-using towels took the top spot. And, when asked what people would avoid so they could be a more responsible traveller, 60 per cent of respondents said they would avoid leaving the air conditioning on when they leave the room.
Our Journey to Tomorrow
Leanne Harwood, Managing Director Australasia & Japan, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “There's no doubt the past year has made us more conscious than ever about the world around us, and the choices we make to care for our people, communities and planet. Journey to Tomorrow embodies IHG's strengthened commitment to make sure we do what's right, not just what's needed, so we can help shape the future of travel with our guests, hotels and partners. Through our new commitments, we are determined to contribute towards positive social and economic change, stand up for key issues such as diversity and inclusion and human rights, and to make more responsible environmental choices. These ambitions support the tremendous work we have already been spearheading in the region – from championing our local partnership with OzHarvest to wonderful initiatives across our hotels and resorts.“As we look to the future, we know the greatest achievements happen when we work together with our partners, and the importance of operating thoughtfully and growing sustainably – even through the toughest of times.”
The ambitions and commitments are firmly rooted in an understanding of what is most important to colleagues, guests and partners across the world when it comes to doing business in the right way, as well as how IHG can play its part in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals in this important 10 years of action. For decades, IHG has been championing its purpose of True Hospitality, from providing skills and education to supporting young people and taking action for environmental change, to partnering with experts globally on urgent causes such as humanitarian and disaster relief efforts.
Commenting on IHG's Journey to Tomorrow, Laurie Lee, Chief Executive Officer, CARE International UK said: “For the past decade, IHG Hotels & Resorts has demonstrated its commitment to responsible travel by working with CARE International UK to respond to emergencies around the world with a special focus on providing safe shelter. IHG's support of CARE has remained firm despite the unprecedented challenges facing the travel industry – and the communities we serve – as a result of the pandemic. In the past year alone, CARE and IHG provided essential COVID-19 prevention resources to almost 5,000 people in the Bogor district of Indonesia, a region severely affected by floods and subsequent COVID-19 outbreaks.
“Furthermore, with IHG's support, CARE helped nearly 20,000 people following Vanuatu's devastating cyclone by providing emergency materials as well as the training and tools to rebuild homes. These life-saving humanitarian efforts are critical to helping communities respond to and recover from crises wherever they happen, and we look forward to continuing the next decade of action with IHG.”
With a family of 16 brands and almost 6,000 hotels and resorts at the heart of local communities around the globe, IHG is here when travellers are ready. IHG recognises the power of collaboration and will join forces with all who stay, work and partner with them to reduce carbon emissions in line with climate science, eliminate single-use items or move to reusable/recyclable alternatives, reduce food waste, and collaborate locally to tackle water sustainability in high-risk areas.

STB partners local MICE industry to showcase reimagined experiences and catalyse new business opportunities at inaugural virtual event
The event will feature a locally curated programme that includes live-streamed cultural and leisure tours, culinary masterclasses by celebrity chefs, and a live panel discussion with industry leaders on organising pilot events in Singapore. It will also facilitate 1-on-1 virtual meetings between participants and up to 40 leading suppliers like hotels, convention centres and tour operators.
Within the virtual 3D environment, participants can navigate the virtual tradeshow floor easily with their mobile devices and connect with exhibitors, such as Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Airlines and Sentosa Development Corporation. They can also catch up on various event programmes on demand and take part in trivia quizzes to win prizes. The top 5 voted buyers will each win a hosted trip to Singapore on Singapore Airlines, inclusive of a hosted stay and exclusive experiences.[1]
To bring the SingapoReimagine MICE Virtual Show to life, STB has partnered established local event organisers (EO) MICE Neurol, Aspen Event Planners and TLC Events. The EOs have organised over 48 digital events between them in the last eight months, including providing production and event management services for the 2020 Alzheimer's Disease International Conference, a 3-day event with over 1,000 delegates.
Dr Edward Koh, Executive Director (Conventions, Meetings & Incentive Travel), Singapore Tourism Board, said: “Singapore has started its journey to reimagine the future of business events, and we are doing so in partnership with our MICE industry to push new boundaries using technology and creativity. The SingapoReimagine MICE Virtual Show demonstrates how we are transforming industry models to seize new opportunities, and underlines our reputation as a safe, trusted and innovative destination for business events. We look forward to having delegates from around the world join us in this journey of exploration and reimagination.”
Kenny Goh, founder of MICE Neurol, said, “We are excited to partner STB for the SingapoReimagine MICE Virtual show, not just to deliver a platform to connect buyers and sellers, but also to co-curate experiences and gamification to enhance the Singapore destination experience. Singapore has both the physical and digital infrastructure to be the centre of global events and we hope to do our part to reignite the MICE industry and continue to brand Singapore as a leading MICE destination.”
Innovation in a time of disruption
The SingapoReimagine MICE virtual show aims to bring like-minded industry stakeholders together. It also presents an opportunity for local MICE industry players and tour operators to showcase their creativity, as they transform their businesses in the new COVID-19 environment.STB has partnered MICE Depot to deliver the event's digital content and live panel discussion. The event agency pivoted its business last year, tapping on STB's Business Improvement Fund (BIF)[2] to develop its digital capabilities and cater to the strong demand for virtual and hybrid events.
Francis Tan, Director of MICE Depot said, “Partnering STB for this event has allowed us to showcase our technical know-how in creating digital content for events and also enabled us to sharpen our skillsets. With the COVID-19 pandemic, we saw a need to pivot and adapt our business. As such, we invested in the development of our own in-house event studio and created internal training programmes to equip our employees with skillsets for broadcasting events in order to create quality virtual and hybrid events.”
Participants can also look forward to 7 unique experiences exclusively curated for them, including live cultural tours at Waterloo Street and Little India; masterclasses by homegrown distillery Brass Lion Distillery and Malcolm Lee, chef-owner of the world's first Michelin star Peranakan restaurant Candlenut; and a behind-the-scenes tour of one of Singapore's oldest coffee shops, Killiney. To further enhance the experience, experience kits will be sent to selected participants, allowing them to participate alongside the sessions or enjoy the activities at their own pace.
Jamie Koh, founder of Brass Lion Distillery, said,” For this event, we've created a gin-tasting followed by a hands-on cocktail making session for participants to learn about the Brass Lion brand in a more engaging way. We are excited to share our brand story, and we hope that it will help us to bring the Singapore Dry Gin to more people beyond Singapore.”
Chef Malcolm, Candlenut, said, “I am happy to be able to connect with local and international foodies through this platform. For this culinary masterclass, I will be whipping up one of my simplest dishes and sharing a slice of the Peranakan culture in Singapore in the way I know best - food.”
Reshaping the future of travel
The SingapoReimagine MICE Virtual Show comes under the umbrella of the SingapoReimagine initiative launched by STB in November 2020 to reimagine travel for Singapore and the rest of the world, and to collectively shape the future of our tourism sector. With health and safety as our top priority during COVID-19, Singapore has resumed MICE events in a gradual and calibrated manner, leveraging on technology to reimagine the future of business travel in Singapore.

Wink Hotels brand is Vietnam’s first homegrown, international-standard hotel group that directly appeals to a dynamic generation emerging throughout Indochina, catering to their fast-paced lifestyle and immersing them in each destination.
Photo above right: Wink Hotels is said to be a revolutionary new hospitality brand, which aims to redefine affordable luxury in Vietnam.
The most noticeable features of the hotels chain are self-check-in or -out, regardless of time and the “grab and go” Wink Food Carts. Through a technology application, efficient check-in or check-out can be done by travelers themselves by using electronic key via the Wink App at any time they like.
The hotel also brings Vietnamese street food culture to the comfort of a hotel environment with its “Wink Carts” for easy, quick breakfasts and lunches that are delivered to clients and the self-served local coffee through Simonelli machines at rooms.
Meanwhile, the hotel chain stays focused on space saving but still ensuring comfort. Every space-efficient hotel room has a power shower and comfortable beds with premium linens and mattresses by Catherine Denoual Maison.
Wink has partnered with Toong, Vietnam's first chain of co-working spaces, which will be featured in all Wink Hotels replacing the typical business centres.
“Asia’s fast-growing economies are being powered by upwardly mobile millennial entrepreneurs, but nowhere more so than in Vietnam which has the most inclusive and dynamic, young-at-heart population in the region, if not in the world,” Wink Hotels Chief Executive Officer Michael Piro said.
“With Wink Hotels, we believe we have created a hotel brand which truly speaks to them and their needs, in a user-friendly style that will appeal to guests of all ages.”
The first Wink branded hotel is the 237-room Wink Hotel Saigon Centre at No 75 Nguyen Binh Khiem, opening in March, 2021.
The hotels chain is conceived by developer, Indochina Kajima, operated by Indochina Vanguard (both joint venture companies with Indochina Capital and Kajima Corporation, and Vanguard Hotels respectively) and designed by AW2.
