10 IMMERSIVE WILDLIFE EXPERIENCES IN NSW

From swimming with sea turtles to glamping with koalas, NSW is abundant with unforgettable wildlife experiences to suit every animal-lover all year round. With World Wildlife Day fast approaching on Wednesday 3rd March, there has never been a better time to book an immersive Wildlife experience or animal encounter in NSW to celebrate our state's natural fauna beyond March 3rd!

  1. Roar and snore: Stay at the luxurious Wildlife Retreat at Taronga Zoo Sydney, an eco-retreat set against lush bushland and the Sydney Harbour. Opt for an animal-view room to spot the zoo's resident koalas and echidnas from your bed and enjoy exclusive access to The Sanctuary, a special native wildlife habitat.
  1. Have a whale of a time: The NSW coast is known as 'Humpback Highway' for good reason - thousands of humpback whales travel the coast from May through November. Plan ahead for whale season and book Dive Jervis Bay's Swim with Whales tour out of Huskisson to get up close and personal with the gentle giants.
  1. Weekend with the devils: Barrington Tops, north of Sydney, is home to a rewilded population of Tasmanian devils, thanks to the conservation champions at Aussie Ark. Spend three days with the devils on AEA Luxury Tours' Weekend with the Devils, including a guided tour of Aussie Ark, a visit to the Hunter Valley wine region and accommodation at The Gloucester Country Lodge.
  1. Go fish: The pristine waters of UNESCO World Heritage listed Lord Howe Island are home to over 450 fish species and 90 species of coral, many of which only occur here. Join Lord Howe Nature Tours' Low Tide Beach Walk with biologist Ian Hutton and learn about the island's endemic marine wildlife.
  1. Camp with camels: Sweeping outback views, shimmering night skies, and a new friend with two humps are all things you will find on Silverton Outback Camels' Overnight Camel Trek. Venture into the outback by camelback with an experienced guide and enjoy campfire meals and a night under the stars.
  1. Splash about with seals: Just off Narooma, on the South Coast of NSW, Montague Island Nature Reserve is known for its lively colony of Australian fur seals. Book a Seal Snorkel tour with Narooma Charters to see why these playful pinnipeds are called the puppies of the sea.
  1. Heal with horses: It's widely known that interactions between horses and people can provide many therapeutic benefits, both physical and emotional. At Belisi Farmstay, near Wagga Wagga, the Equine Therapy program allows guests to spend time with horses and focus on their wellbeing.
  1. Swim with sea turtles: Cook Island, a tiny volcanic outcrop off the coast of Tweed Heads, is home to a permanent population of green, hawksbill and loggerhead sea turtles. Swim with these majestic animals on Watersports Guru's Snorkel with the Turtles tour and you might also encounter clownfish, leopard sharks and dolphins.
  1. Breakfast with alpacas: At Alpaca Magic farm in the Yass Valley, start your day with Breakfast with the Alpacas and Llamas, an opportunity to feed the 200 woollen animals and enjoy a delicious farmhouse breakfast. Or head north to Iris Lodge on the Central Coast for Breakfast with Billy and Ellie, an unlikely alpaca and sheep duo.
  1. Snooze with koalas: You might not sleep for 18 hours like koalas do, but you can spend the night among them in a four-star glamping tent at Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary. During your stay, explore the Skywalk for an up-close view of the cuddly creatures.
