Start Your Engines: The Formula 1® Exhibition Races into Melbourne

The Red Bull RB7 Car
For the first time ever, Australia is hosting the globally acclaimed Formula 1 Exhibition — and it has arrived in spectacular fashion at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Earlier this year, while attending AIME 2026 in Melbourne, I had the opportunity to attend its Opening Ceremony at the exhibition before it opened to the general public. Once the formalities concluded, I found myself immersed in one of the most compelling sporting showcases I have experienced. This is not simply a display of race cars. It is a high-octane journey through more than 70 years of innovation, rivalry and speed at the pinnacle of global motorsport.

Open to 19 April 2026, the exhibition offers an unforgettable deep dive into the world of Formula 1®.

Seven Immersive Rooms of Motorsport History

Williams FW14 Formula One car
Spanning more than 22,000 square feet, the exhibition unfolds across seven purpose-built rooms. Each space blends historic race cars, rare artefacts, exclusive interviews and immersive multimedia displays, all curated with access to the official Formula 1 archive.

The experience traces the legacy of visionaries such as Enzo Ferrari and icons like Ayrton Senna, while also examining the modern surge in popularity fuelled by Drive to Survive.

The storytelling is dynamic. You can pause to absorb the detail or move briskly from one adrenaline-charged moment to the next.

Legendary Cars Up Close

Seeing championship-winning cars just metres away is an experience that cannot be replicated on screen. Among the standout machines on display are:
  • 1980 Williams FW07/04
  • 2011 Red Bull RB7
  • 2003 BAR Honda 005
  • 2013 Lotus E21
  • 1993 Williams FW15C

Each vehicle represents a pivotal chapter in Formula 1 history. The proximity allows visitors to appreciate the intricate engineering, aerodynamic detailing and sheer craftsmanship that define the sport.

Only in Melbourne: Aussie Drive

BAR Honda Formula 1 car
Exclusive to the Melbourne season, the Aussie Drive room celebrates Australia’s impact on Formula 1. From past champions to today’s rising star Oscar Piastri, the display honours the drivers, circuits and moments that have shaped the nation’s place on the grid.

For local fans, this section adds a meaningful and uniquely Australian dimension to the global exhibition.

Interactive Thrills and Racing Simulators

The exhibition excels in interactivity. The Albert Park simulator allows visitors to virtually tackle a full lap of Melbourne’s Grand Prix circuit, placing you in the cockpit of a Formula 1 car. It is easily one of the highlights and delivers a genuine sense of speed and precision.

Another standout feature is the reaction time challenge inspired by Michael Schumacher and his legendary 0.16 second reflex test. It quickly becomes an unspoken competition among visitors.

Guests can also:
  • Snap a complimentary photo on the Winners Podium
  • Design their own helmet
  • Explore engineering displays
  • Engage with hands-on technical exhibits

These interactive zones keep the pacing energetic and accessible for all ages.

Helmets, Suits and Human Stories

Helmets and Race Suits
Beyond the machines, the exhibition showcases more than 60 helmets, over 25 race suits and upwards of 100 interviews. This section highlights the personalities behind the sport, adding emotional depth to the high-speed spectacle.

The blend of archival footage, driver insights and personal artefacts ensures the exhibition resonates with both lifelong fans and newcomers curious about the world’s fastest sport.

Why the F1 Exhibition Melbourne Is a Must-Visit

Having already toured cities including Madrid, Vienna, London, Toronto, Buenos Aires and Amsterdam, the exhibition arrives in Melbourne with global acclaim. The London season reportedly sold out daily for months, underscoring its worldwide appeal.

The Melbourne edition feels particularly special thanks to its scale, exclusive local content and the city’s deep connection to motorsport through the Australian Grand Prix.

Whether you are passionate about racing, fascinated by engineering, or simply seeking a world-class immersive experience in Melbourne, the Formula 1 Exhibition delivers speed, storytelling and spectacle in equal measure.
