The iconic Sydney Royal Easter Show in Sydney is set to host an inspiring new initiative as the Young Farmers Business Program officially kicks off on Thursday 2 April. This forward-thinking program is designed to equip the next generation of farmers with the tools, knowledge and resilience needed to thrive in an evolving agricultural landscape.
Set against one of Australia’s most celebrated events, the launch highlights the growing importance of innovation, sustainability and leadership within the nation’s agricultural sector.
Building Resilience in a Changing Industry
The Young Farmers Business Program forms part of the $43.2 million Farm Business Resilience Program, supported by both federal and state governments. Its mission is to strengthen the capacity of young farmers to manage drought, climate variability and business risk while enhancing long-term productivity and sustainability.
Through a combination of workshops, mentoring and peer networking, participants gain practical insights into business planning, decision-making and financial management, all critical skills in today’s agricultural environment.
The Young Farmer Exchange: Shaping Agriculture 2075
The program launches with the Young Farmer Exchange, a free three-hour event hosted by NSW Farmers Young Farmers Committee in partnership with the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Youth Group.
Under the theme Agriculture 2075: Investment, Innovation and Influence, the forum will bring together leading industry voices to explore the future of farming over the next five decades. Discussions will cover key topics such as investment trends, emerging technologies, leadership development and policy direction.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in open discussions and a networking lunch, fostering collaboration and fresh thinking across the sector.

Practical Skills for Real-World Success
Beyond the launch event, the Young Farmers Business Program includes a range of initiatives aimed at delivering tangible outcomes. Among these are the Young Farmer Bank Ready workshops, which provide hands-on guidance for those looking to start, expand or strengthen their farming businesses.
Delivered in partnership with the Rural Financial Counselling Service, these workshops focus on financial literacy, risk assessment and business planning. Participants gain the confidence and skills needed to engage with banks and lenders, ensuring they are well-prepared for future growth.
Investing in the Future of Regional Australia
The program underscores the importance of investing in young agricultural leaders to support regional economies and ensure the long-term sustainability of the industry. By equipping participants with the skills to navigate challenges such as climate change and global market shifts, the initiative contributes to a more resilient and innovative agricultural sector.
Leaders from across government and industry have emphasised the importance of fostering confidence, capability and connection among emerging farmers, ensuring they are well-positioned to lead the sector into the future.
