Bangkok Hosts Landmark Tourism Forum to Shape a New Path Forward

Thailand took a bold step into the future of global travel as it hosted the Thailand Tourism Forum 2025 on 7 May in Bangkok. Held under the timely theme “Navigating Global Tourism Trends: Strengthening Thailand’s Tourism Industry,” the event gathered more than 500 stakeholders from across government, business, and international organisations to reimagine how the country can lead in sustainable and resilient tourism.

Global Insights, Local Impact

Organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in collaboration with UN Tourism and multiple global partners, the forum offered a platform for thought leadership and practical strategies. UN Tourism’s Director for Asia and the Pacific, Mr. Harry Hwang, extended his support to Thailand’s future efforts, while keynote speaker Ms. Sandra Carvao presented an in-depth analysis of the 2025–2030 global tourism outlook.

The discussions spanned vital topics including emerging travel behaviours, the influence of artificial intelligence on the sector, and the growing necessity for climate-resilient infrastructure and inclusive community-based tourism.

AI and Innovation on the Horizon

A major highlight of the event was the panel titled “Shaping the Future of Tourism Platforms and the Road to 2030,” which focused on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence. Experts explored how AI is already shifting global travel trends and how countries like Thailand can harness technology to deliver smarter, safer, and more customised visitor experiences.

Thailand’s Five Pillars for Future Tourism

In his keynote address, Minister of Tourism and Sports Mr. Sorawong Thienthong laid out Thailand’s five strategic priorities:

  1. Shift from volume to value by attracting high-spending, quality-conscious tourists.

  2. Promote secondary destinations through authentic, community-based tourism.

  3. Integrate Thailand’s soft power—including culture, food, and creativity—with digital platforms.

  4. Diversify source markets to minimise dependency on any one region.

  5. Strengthen crisis preparedness in the face of health, environmental, and economic disruptions.

The Minister also praised Borsuak Village in Nan Province, recently named one of the Best Tourism Villages 2024 by UN Tourism, as a shining example of sustainable and inclusive tourism in action.

A New Vision: The Thailand Model

With an eye firmly on 2030, the forum concluded with a call to unite public and private sectors in building the “Thailand Model”—a holistic approach to travel that prioritises experience over numbers, empowers local communities, and ensures that sustainability is embedded at every level.

This new direction is not just about future-proofing the industry—it’s about turning Thailand into a Destination of the Future, one recognised worldwide for its quality, cultural depth, and resilience.
