A Global Commitment to Inclusive Travel
As Pride Month brings visibility and celebration to the LGBTQIA+ community, Booking.com has marked a major achievement—over 100,000 properties worldwide are now certified under its Travel Proud program. Launched in 2021, the initiative is part of Booking.com's mission to create a more inclusive and welcoming travel experience for everyone, regardless of who they love or how they identify.
The Travel Proud badge allows travellers to easily identify accommodation partners that have completed free inclusivity training, ensuring they are prepared to offer respectful, informed, and welcoming service to LGBTQIA+ guests.
Australia Among the Leaders in Inclusive Stays
Australia continues to shine as a strong advocate for inclusive tourism. With nearly 5,000 accommodations across Australia and New Zealand now Travel Proud certified, the region ranks seventh globally in the number of certified properties.
Sydney and Melbourne are particularly noteworthy, recording significant year-on-year growth in Travel Proud properties. Melbourne has seen a 44% increase, while Sydney follows closely with a 37% rise—demonstrating both cities’ ongoing efforts to be welcoming, inclusive destinations for LGBTQIA+ travellers.
Sydney Among the World’s Top LGBTQIA+ Travel Destinations
To celebrate Pride Month, Booking.com has also released its Global Destination Guide showcasing the top LGBTQIA+ friendly cities. Sydney has secured its place alongside other celebrated destinations such as Brighton and Hove in the UK, Turin in Italy, and Panama City in Panama.
From the iconic Mardi Gras Parade to inclusive beach scenes and thriving nightlife, Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ scene is vibrant, diverse, and internationally recognised. Whether travellers are visiting for cultural events, scenic getaways, or simply to relax in a safe and welcoming environment, Sydney continues to be a top pick for LGBTQIA+ adventurers from around the globe.
Looking Ahead: Travel That Welcomes All
Booking.com’s Travel Proud program isn’t just about ticking boxes—it’s about reshaping the way the travel industry engages with diversity. The platform’s continued growth in certified properties reflects an important shift in hospitality, where inclusion is no longer an optional extra but a standard that every traveller deserves.
As more properties undergo training and proudly display the Travel Proud badge, the message is clear: everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and celebrated—wherever they go.
