Discover the lesser-known wine regions in Italy

With its ideal climate and fertile lands producing some of the highest quality grapes in the world, excellent wine flows freely in Italy from Tuscany’s famous Sangiovese to the world-renowned Prosecco from Veneto. But while some wine regions in the country are more well-known than others, there are more than 20 regions across Italy growing hundreds of grape varietals – all contributing to Italy’s reputation as one of the largest and oldest wine producers in the world.

Next time you visit Italy, dig deeper into Italy’s incredible historic wine culture and explore some of the lesser-known vineyards dotted across the length and breadth of the country. Here are a few wine regions to add to your radar.

Combining wine and UNESCO heritage landscapes

The wealth and uniqueness of Italian wines are known worldwide. Just think that some production areas have received UNESCO Heritage recognition. Such as the Vineyard Landscapes of Piedmont, Langhe-Roero and Monferrato; the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene and the head-trained vines of Pantelleria. But, in reality, every corner of Italy offers incredible opportunities to taste exceptional products.

Unmissable experiences

Italy is dotted with vineyards: from north to south the territory is full of rows of vines, each with its distinctive feature, absolutely to be discovered.


You can try unique experiences within everyone's reach. Classic winery tasting tours are complemented by stays at wine resorts, and wine therapy wellness treatments. Yoga enthusiasts can meditate surrounded by nature, in the shade of a vine. Those who are more inclined to an active vacation, on the other hand, can explore the vineyards aboard a 4x4, thus combining the thrill of off-roading with beautiful landscapes.
