The NSW Government has announced a permanent home for Sydney’s LGBTQI museum, Qtopia – the former Darlinghurst police station.
Premier Chris Minns said: "A year ago, Ian Roberts came to me with an idea - to create Australia's first pride museum. Now we're getting on and delivering it. Turning a page on the Old Darlinghurst Police Station's story, where LGBTQ+ 78ers were held and beaten. And writing into it a new chapter."
Qtopia Sydney will host permanent and temporary exhibitions that explore the LGBTQIA+ community through the lens of history, culture, art and contemporary issues. Launching in Sydney for WorldPride 2023, the Museum will feature historical and archival objects, imagery, video and audio, to tell some of the stories of this significant period within Australia’s history.
