For movie fans, outdoor movies in Los Angeles are the best of all worlds: classic films and modern hits are shown on a big screen under the stars, along with plenty of delicious food and drinks. And thanks to LA's great weather, the outdoor movie season runs well into fall. Gather your friends and enjoy an "endless summer" of entertainment with our guide to the best outdoor movies in LA.

Cinespia hosts classic films and modern favorites at historic locations across L.A. Upcoming screenings at Los Angeles State Historic Park in Downtown LA include The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (May 19), Mrs. Doubtfire (May 26), 10 Things I Hate About You (May 27) and She's All That (June 16). The Greek Theatre is hosting Cinespia for The Lost Boys (June 3) and The Spongebob Squarepants Movie (June 10).

On Saturday, June 24, Cinespia presents a special LA Pride screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). The longest-running cult movie of all time, Rocky Horror stars Tim Curry as the “transsexual from Transylvania” Dr. Frank N. Furter; Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick as his hapless guests Brad and Janet; Meat Loaf as motorcycle-riding rough trade; and author Richard O’Brien as the hunchbacked butler Riff Raff. The event includes DJ sets before and after the film; classic concessions like hot popcorn, candies, hot dogs and nachos; full bar and a photobooth, so wear your RKO best. Movie nights are some of the most popular events at the world-famous Hollywood Bowl, from the annual John Williams: Maestro of the Movies (July 7-9) to the perennial favorite Sing-Along Sound of Music on September 16.

Featuring live accompaniment by the LA Phil and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Bowl's 2023 movie screenings include: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (June 24), 2001: A Space Odyssey, featuring the Los Angeles Master Chorale (Aug. 3); Walt Disney Animation Studios: The Concert (Aug. 4-5) and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Sept. 1-2).

Featuring a wide range of films, gourmet food trucks and live music, Street Food Cinema presents Saturday night screenings at outdoor locations from The Autry Museum to Los Angeles State Historic Park, Will Rogers State Historic Park, and Verdugo Park in Glendale.

Upcoming screenings at The Autry include Don't Worry Darling (May 20), Ghost World (May 27) and The Birdcage (June 17). Other screenings include Do the Right Thing at LA State Historic Park on June 17; Elvis at Will Rogers (June 10) and The Goonies at Verdugo Park on June 24.

Tropicana Movie Nights returns to the landmark Hollywood Roosevelt! Screening at the famed David Hockney pool, the series features movies filmed in LA. Classic Teen Comedies are featured in May: Clueless (May 23) and Fast Times at Ridgemont High (May 30). Located near the iconic intersection of Hollywood and Vine, The Montalbán kicked off its 2023 Rooftop Movies season with Rogue One. Upcoming screenings include Ferris Bueller's Day Off (May 19), Sunset Boulevard (May 20), Casino (May 21), Top Gun (May 26) Full Metal Jacket (May 27) and Vertigo (May 28).

The Montalbán’s rooftop OASIS is outfitted with a bar, concession stand, and kitchen. Doors for each screening open at 6pm, with the feature film starting 10 minutes after sunset (8pm).

Tickets cost $28 for regular admission and include headset rental and popcorn. Pricing is $58 for a double seat (aka loveseat), which includes headsets, bottomless popcorn and champagne toast.

This year's outdoor movie screenings are inspired by Blacklist: The Hollywood Red Scare, on view at the Skirball from May 4 to September 3. Making its West Coast debut at the Skirball with newly added artifacts, Blacklist shines a spotlight on the proceedings, investigations, motives, and choices of those caught in the crosshairs - including the many Jewish creatives and executives who suffered under and enforced the Blacklist.

The 2023 season kicks off on June 9 with Roman Holiday, starring Audrey Hepburn (in an Oscar-winning performance) and Gregory Peck. Other screenings include High Noon (June 23) and The Way We Were on July 7.

Doors and the museum open at 7pm, movies start at 8:30pm. Tickets are $20 for General Admission and $15 for Members and Full-Time Students.

Located in northern L.A. County, Castaic Lake is the largest state water project reservoir in Southern California, with more than 11,000 acres of parkland and open space habitat.

For a truly unique night at the movies, head out to Castaic Lake for Boat Cinema, presented in partnership with the Dept. of Parks & Recreation. Rent an electric mini-boat for up to five people (combined 850 lb weight limit) to enjoy LA's first and only on-the-water film experience. Or bring your own beach chairs, towels or blankets and enjoy the movie from the beach.

Nautical-themed screenings include Jaws (June 3, Sept. 9), Overboard (May 20), Finding Nemo (May 28), Titanic (June 17), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl (July 9), Sharknado (Aug. 4) and The Little Mermaid (Aug. 13).
