New campaign encourages Working Holiday Makers to take up tourism and hospitality jobs

A campaign has been launched by Tourism WA is promoting Western Australia as the most desirable destination for a working holiday to UK and east coast residents.

The Working Holiday Maker (WHM) campaign will run until 30 June and encourages working holiday makers who are in Australia, and UK residents who are planning to travel here, to ‘come follow the sun’, and work in one of the many tourism and hospitality jobs available throughout the state.

Campaign activity includes a media content partnership with LADbible Australia and LADbible UK, as well as a paid social and digital media campaign on the eastern seaboard.

The campaign pivots on a video series featuring former Australian cricketer and local resident Mitchell Johnson showing a real British couple, currently in Perth on their working holiday, why it’s the best place in Australia for a working holiday, and some of the exciting tourism and hospitality jobs on offer.

Competitions will run in Australia and the UK to incentivise working holiday makers to visit Tourism WA’s new consumer website and dedicated jobs portal, westernaustralia.jobs.

The free, purpose-built platform, developed by Tourism WA in partnership with the Australian Hotels Association WA (AHA WA), was launched in May last year, and offers training, visa support, seasonal job opportunities and information on regional destinations to job seekers. The website has also been the call to action for the WA Government’s recruitment campaign to entice interstate and New Zealand workers to take up WA hospitality and tourism roles in WA.

Tourism WA Managing Director Carolyn Turnbull is encouraging tourism and hospitality businesses to register their job vacancies on westernaustralia.jobs.

“The ongoing demand for travel to WA means we continue to see high numbers of job vacancies in the industry,” said Ms Turnbull.

“This new campaign provides a great opportunity for tourism and hospitality operators to leverage the popularity of the website with working holiday makers by listing their job vacancies.

“It’s important to ensure that, as a state, we present our best available jobs to those who are considering working and holidaying in WA.”

Employers are encouraged to keep listings current to connect with the many job seekers visiting the website. Employers who haven’t already done so can register their company profiles on westernaustralia.jobs before listing job vacancies.
