SKI TO SURF: TRAVELLERS HOP ONBOARD BONZA’S NEW SUNSHINE COAST TO ALBURY SERVICE

It was a very good Friday for Aussie travellers as Bonza celebrated its first commercial flight to Albury. Customers were treated to a visit from the Easter Bunny as well as purple hot cross buns from Adriana Zumbo when departing Sunshine Coast Airport. The sweet times continued at Albury Airport with Bonza customers greeted by excited locals eager to welcome the high capacity airline to the region.

“Sunshine Coast to Albury and return are amongst our best selling routes so far. We’ve seen many people book for these school holidays and also into winter thanks to Albury’s close proximity to the ski fields and the Sunshine Coast’s warm winter weather. We’re looking forward to taking customers skiing and surfing on both directions of this new route,” said Tim Jordan, CEO of Bonza.

The new route will operate twice weekly on Monday and Friday. Today’s launch comes as Bonza continues to ramp up its initial route map of 17 destinations and 27 routes - 93% of which are not currently served by any airline and 96% not currently served by a low-cost carrier.

“Albury Airport staff and the Albury City Council have been championing Bonza since we announced the regional city was on our initial route map and we are grateful for their ongoing support,” added Jordan.

Albury City Council owns and operates Albury Airport and Mayor Kylie King echoed Jordan’s sentiments as she welcomed the first Bonza flight.

“The arrival of the inaugural Bonza flight from the Sunshine Coast is an incredible milestone for our region, adding another exciting destination to the list of direct flights from the Albury Airport,” Mayor King said.

“This new route gives our community the opportunity to visit our friends up on the Sunny Coast in record time and opens up the Albury Wodonga and surrounding region to a whole new group of travellers.”

“I’d like to thank the teams from AlburyCity and Bonza for all their hard work in getting this first flight off the ground, marking the beginning of what I hope will be a long and successful relationship.”

Providing a very purple send off for travellers, and a warm Sunshine Coast welcome on the return flight, was the team from Sunshine Coast Airport.

Sunshine Coast Airport CEO, Andrew Brodie said,“With two flights every week between the Sunshine Coast and Albury this new route is already proving to be quite popular for people wanting to catch up with family and friends, and there is also a lot of interest for people wanting to get away this winter to go skiing.

“While the Sunshine Coast is blessed with beautiful weather and amazing beaches, we are short on snow, so to be able to jump on a plane to Albury and be somewhere like Falls Creek, in less than two hours after you land, is very appealing to residents of the Sunshine Coast.”

Travellers are encouraged to download the Fly Bonza app which is the only place to book direct.
