THANK A FARMER DAY: 8 APRIL
The Sydney Royal Easter Show celebrates Australian agriculture over 12 amazing days of competitions, exhibitions, demonstrations and entertainment. But on 8 April we take it up notch for THANK A FARMER DAY. On this special day, we take time to recognise the individuals who strive for agricultural excellence, and provide for them a forum to share their stories of hard work, resilience and passion with the broader urban community and media. These are the stories of the men, women, families and communities who work for Australia every-other-dayof-the-year to sustain our nation for generations to come.
AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP DAY: 11 APRIL
Conferees will take one of the biggest steps of their lives and receive Australian Citizenship, taking a pledge and oath to officially call Australia home. The ceremony, open for all Showgoers to witness, is incredibly moving and serves as a reminder to all of us how blessed we are to live in the land Down Under. RAS Patron Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC will serve as Presiding Officer, alongside RAS President Michael Millner and government representatives. As the country comes to the city during the Show, it is incredibly appropriate for conferees to repeat their pledge in front of friends and family and become our newest citizens.
CONVERSATION CHECK MATE: 13 APRIL
Mental health issues affect one in five Australians. This year we are taking a day to check on a mate, start a conversation about mental health, and show support for those affected—particularly those in rural Australia affected by isolation. On 13 April, 12,000 hand-crocheted blue Forget Me Nots will be handed out to Easter Show patrons, reminding and encouraging them to reach out and ‘check on a mate’. The Forget Me Nots will be tagged with phone numbers for important organisations such as Mental Health Line, Lifeline, Kids Helpline, and Beyond Blue. These beautiful blue hand-crocheted flowers were hand made with love and donated. We are so glad to use them to promote this important cause.
