Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III

The countdown is officially on. There are less than 20 days to go until all eyes turn to Britain for the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. Racking up more than 1,200 years of service, the Royal Family know a thing or two about home-grown traditions and spectacular events. With the big weekend approaching, get ready to join in the festivities and watch on as London, Windsor and beyond celebrate the start of a new era.

The Coronation Weekend

Whilst Westminster Abbey is the setting for the official Coronation Ceremony on Saturday, 6 May, there are events aplenty taking place across the capital and nationwide over the Coronation Weekend (6 – 8 May).

Following a day of formal traditions and spectacular pageantry, a special Coronation Concert will be staged and broadcast live at Windsor Castle on Sunday, 7 May. A live screening of the concert will also take place at St James’s Park, London. On the same day, more than 50,000 communities and neighbours from across the UK will come together to share food and fun for ‘The Coronation Big Lunch’ and adding to the festivities, Their Majesties have released the recipe for their very own Coronation Quiche. The celebrations will culminate on Monday, 8 May when the nation has been invited to take part in ‘The Big Help Out’, an event which will encourage citizens to volunteer in their local community. Royal Exhibits

The Coronation will inspire travellers from across the globe to discover Britain’s royal heritage and throughout the historic year there will be several exhibits, events and one-of-a-kind experiences for visitors to indulge in. New exhibits not to be missed include The Queen and her Corgis at The Wallace Collection (8 March - 25 June), Crown to Couture at Kensington Palace (5 April – 29 October), Royal Connections Crowns and Coronets at Blenheim Palace (4 March – 31 July), The King’s Stamp at the Postal Museum (8 February – 3 September) and Style & Society: Dressing the Georgians at Buckingham Palace (21 April – 8 October). For those seeking a snippet of the magic of the Coronation, a new immersive light and sound show displaying the Crown Jewels on iconic UK landmarks will tour the four nations from autumn, beginning with the Tower of London.

Royal Experiences

For those who fancy something a little different, jump behind the wheels of a Land Rover and tour the Royal Family’s favourite countryside escapes at Balmoral Castle (now open to the public on a daily basis as of 1 April 2023) and Sandringham Estate. Over at Highgrove, discover a rare glimpse into His Majesty The King’s passion for all things green with a Champagne Tea and Garden Tour of the royal private residence and gardens. In Wales, see first-hand why all major royal weddings have been sealed with Welsh gold on a visit to the Rhiannon Centre as you watch as jewellery is made by local Welsh goldsmiths. Back in London, enjoy an interactive tour of the only theatre in the world still operating under a genuine royal charter at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The theatre has been famously visited by every reigning monarch since the Restoration in 1660 and is the only theatre in the world with two Royal Boxes. Don’t leave town without enjoying a pint of Coronation Ale at Windsor & Eton Brewery. The 100% organic beer brewed in the heart of Windsor uses organic barley from the local Royal Farm and organic English hops.
