- Cricket Sri Lanka – England vs Sri Lanka March 2020
- New release of tickets now available through us at The Travel Concierge Sri Lanka.
We’re mad about cricket and some much more than others! If our Director, Chamara, isn’t in the office, he’ll be playing or watching cricket and he’s inviting international guests (including Brits!) to join him & friends at the England vs Sri Lanka Test in March. A luxury eight night package including beach, elephant & wildlife safari, Sigiriya Rock, the three day test match in Galle, 19-21 March, has been prepared for guests with a private chauffeur guide for AUD 3575 pp (twin share) with the option to join a bar tour of Colombo & dinner at Ministry of Crab on the final evening. Small group quotations are available, as are tailored independent itineraries and options to stay for warm-up matches and further test matches.
Knowing the stadium well, Chamara suggests joining in the Grand Stand, rather than VIP area, as there’ll be a better view & atmosphere and one of our team will be able to assist while you enjoy the match (including grabbing a beer or two). Teams have yet to be published with Chamara hoping a highlight will be the inclusion of New Zealand born Ben Stokes, who grabbed the World Cup from NZ, playing for England.
Should non-cricket enthusiasts wish to join their partners and miss the games, TTC are able to offer day-time alternatives in easy reach, such as a Kanneliya Forest walk, a spa-retreat, cooking lessons and much more Cricket could be said to be the most popular sport in Sri Lanka and matches are watched with interest by a large proportion of our population. Back in the days when our homeland was known as Ceylon and occupied by the British in 1796 (becoming a British colony in 1815), cricket soon followed and it is reasonable to assume that the game was first played here by 1800. The earliest definite mention of cricket in Ceylon was a report in the Colombo Journal on 5 September 1832 which called for the formation of a cricket club. The Colombo Cricket Club was formed soon afterwards and matches began in November 1832. Sri Lanka’s one day international debut came in the 1975 cricket world cup and were later awarded Test cricket status in 1981, by the International Cricket Council and today is popular as ever! Come join us!
