Enjoy Eating Kano Crabs in Japan

Ishikawa prefecture's pride and joy, Kano crab, refers to male snow crab that are larger than 9 cm and harvested in Ishikawa.

This rare stock of crab can only be caught during the winter season. These crabs are known for their flavourful meat and rich tomalley.

The name “Kano” refers to the area from which this delicacy comes; from Kaga City (Ka) to Noto Island (No).

Head to any Japanese restaurant, hotel, or traditional inn in Kaga area of Ishikawa prefecture in winter to get a taste.

Large Kano crabs can sell for up to 6,000 and even 10,000 yen a head.
