steam loco |
3016 is a 30 class loco. Built in 1903 by Beyer, Peacock and Company in Manchester it began its service on the Sydney suburban lines. After the electrification of the lines began in 1926 the class was rebuilt as C30T and converted from tank locos to tender locos to be used on regional lines.
Later in its life 3016 was also fitted with a superheater to improve efficiency. At their peak the C30T class could be found working across the state. The last of the class were withdrawn from service in 1972.
3016 was purchased by the Australian Railway Historical Society in Canberra who restored the loco and returned it to service in 1989. Find out more about this loco here http://goo.gl/mXvrAa
There are still more steam locos to be announced. Check back tomorrow for details about the next train.
