Federal Minister for Tourism and International Education, Senator Richard Colbeck, said the projects would provide a boost for regional tourism businesses.
“This programme aims to improve the quality and capacity of regional tourism infrastructure and products, helping local operators to further capitalise on strong tourism growth,” Minister Colbeck said.
“The Australian Government is very keen to support the development of infrastructure that drives tourism demand as a way to support the vital tourism industry in South Australia.
“We are particularly focused on ensuring regional Australia benefits from the growth that our tourism industry is currently experiencing – these projects are a great example of the quality of tourism offerings in regional areas.
“South Australia has some world-class and visually stunning natural attractions. This funding will help industry meet its Tourism 2020 growth targets and ensure businesses remain sustainable and profitable into the future.”
South Australian Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell said a strong tourism sector was vital to the state’s economic future.
“By investing in the visitor economy, particularly in areas promoting nature-based tourism opportunities, we can help create more jobs in our regions and focus on the future of this vital industry,” Mr Bignell said.
“The State Government understands the importance of the tourism industry to the visitor economy with $35 million being invested over two years to promote South Australia to the domestic and international market.
“Of the $35 million, $14 million was allocated for marketing campaigns to promote our wonderful state to the international market.
“Our state is well known internationally for its nature based tourism experiences and untouched landscapes and the Federal investment in the International Visitor Experience Strategy is very important in growing our reputation as a world class destination.”
Through the TDDI programme the Australian Government is investing $43.1 million over four years – including $3.99 million in South Australia.
