Happy Chinese New Year from SPTO

The South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) would like to extend its best wishes for a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year to all Chinese nationals and disaspora.

SPTO Chief Executive Ilisoni Vuidreketi said the Chinese New Year remains one of the most auspicious occasions in Chinese communities as it is the beginning of the lunar calendar year.

“As we celebrate Chinese New Year we are reminded about the increasing trend of Chinese visitor arrivals into our 17 Pacific Island member countries as China remains the largest emerging market for our region.”

“In the third quarter of 2015, 39,918 Chinese tourists visited the region, indicating a 77.9% from the same period in 2014. This positive growth has been consistent over the last 5 years and we are excited about the future prospects of this growth.”

“Our Pacific region usually records a peak in Chinese visitor arrivals during this period as Chinese travel to welcome the New Year with family and friends, however this is traditionally a low visitor arrival season for the region. This trend, we believe will be further heightened by the Rosie Tours and Fiji Airways direct chartered flights from China in 2016.”

“These private sector driven initiatives compliment the marketing and promotional campaigns of the National Tourism Offices in the Pacific region that are working to increase Chinese visitor arrivals to our islands. We congratulate Rosie Tours and Fiji Airways for their continued initiatives to push the Chinese market and we look forward to more such private sector partnerships. ”
