Pitch Perfect Weekend in Paradise

Toni Childs sails into the
Whitsundays in November
The Airlie Beach Festival of Music offers a pitch perfect weekend in paradise showcasing over 200 talented national and international musicians. Now in its third year, the Airlie Beach Festival of Music has become a popular fixture on the Whitsunday and Queensland event calendars. The festival turns up the music dial from Thursday 5 November to Sunday 8 November, with three main concerts and 15 venues with live music throughout the weekend.

Festival Promoter Gavin Butlin says, “We have put a lot of work into our headline acts to ensure we have a mix of talent and musical genres for everyone to enjoy. Unfortunately we have had a last minute cancellation from Scottish singer-songwriter Sandi Thom who has just announced her pregnancy. Sandi has been advised not to fly at this stage so she has now postponed her appearance until next year’s festival. We are disappointed but think music lovers will still be thrilled with the depth of female talent this year including Toni Childs, Wendy Matthews, Annie O’Dee and Wanita.”

Tailored to an over 30s audience, this intimate festival ensures you get up close and personal with the musicians in many of the lively bars and beachside venues around Airlie Beach and at the main stage on the edge of the Coral Sea at the Whitsunday Sailing Club. Mr Butlin says, “We are finding many people are making this festival their annual group holiday with friends because of the style of the festival, the atmosphere and the quantity and quality of the music.”

Tigerair, a main sponsor of the festival, is getting into the swing of things with plans to play songs from headline act 10cc throughout flights in October and November. Vanessa Regan, Head of Communications for the airline says, “we are thrilled to help music lovers get to Airlie Beach in November for the festival with our affordable direct services between Sydney and Whitsunday Coast airport. With the recent introduction of on board music during boarding and disembarkation, Tigerair will incorporate music featuring at the festival from October to add to the inflight experience for our customers.”

Festival goers have a choice of buying a one day pass or a three day pass depending on how many bands they want to see. A three day pass gives you access to the main stage and all other ticketed venues around town for the whole weekend. It also includes a bonus jam session on the Thursday night at Beaches. All passes entitle the pass holder to the free bus shuttle which runs all weekend and ensures everyone arrives home easily and safely. Passes are great value with a one day pass selling for $120 and a three day pass for just $245.00. Festival passes can be purchased online at www.mackayecc.com.au and www.bigtix.com.au.

Headline acts include the famous international band 10cc, American singer-songwriter Toni Childs, The Black Sorrows, Richard Clapton, Angry Anderson with the James Southwell Band and Wendy Matthews. Crowd favourites from past years include the Mason Rack Band, 8 Ball Aitken, Bondi Cigars, House of Shem, Wanita and her Honky Tonk Bar Dwellers, Bill Chambers, Phil Emmanuel, Electrik Lemonade, The Hillbilly Goats and Lance Friend and the Murky River.
