Tasmanian Walking Company Releases Winter Experiences Program

Cradle Mountain
Tasmania's iconic Cradle Mountain Huts Walk will once again be available during the winter months of 2015, allowing intrepid hikers to choose from seven departures throughout June, July and August where they can experience this stunning wintery landscape.

The 8-day Cradle Mountain Huts Winter Walk will trek through the World Heritage-listed Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park along the Overland Track in small groups of no more than 10 with two highly-experienced guides.

During the winter months, the high peaks along the Overland Track, as well as certain sections along the trail, receive fresh snowfalls, turning the Cradle Mountain National Park into a stunning winter wonderland.

Highlights of walking the Overland Track in winter including fewer people, crisp winter air, frozen lakes and frequent snowfalls which change the vistas of the surrounding landscapes.

Walkers will also often come face to snout with wombats, echidnas, wallabies and Tasmanian Devils all making the area their home.

Not for the faint hearted, the experience requires a high level of fitness for this multi-day walking experience with pack weights of around 12kg-15kg. The itinerary is designed to enable walkers to go at a slower pace to account for changing weather conditions.

Each evening's accommodation is in one of the private huts nestled away in this remarkable Park, including Barn Bluff Hut, Pine Forest Moor Hut, Pelion Hut, Kia Ora Hut and Windy Ridge Hut. They are exclusively for guests of the Cradle Mountain Huts Walk and provide a welcome haven at the end of each day with piping hot showers, drying rooms for damp clothes and boots, and cosy heating, along with a hearty three-course dinner and fine Tasmanian wines.

The Winter Walks cost $3450 per person twin share and include two experienced walking guides, all accommodation (excluding the first night before departure), food and beverages, National Parks passes, transfers to and from Launceston, and the use of a waterproof jacket and pack for the duration of the walk.
