Taking place at St Ignatius' College in Sydney, both NSW teams are defending their titles for first and second place. The rugby matches are expected to bring large local crowds and families from across the state.

The 41st championships, twelve teams will assemble with eight teams playing in division I - ACT, NSW I and II, QLD I and II, Victoria, Western Australia and a Combined States team will vie for the Jika Travers Shield. New South Wales have held the shield for the past three years, where Queensland previously had a six year run.
The championships were first played in 1975 in Melbourne where Queensland Schools defeated ACT, a result repeated in 1976. Queensland have won the championships 16 times, NSW have 21 wins, while the ACT have three wins.
