New Great Barrier Reef Experience Launching in Bundaberg

The Lady Musgrave Experience
Visitors will soon be able to experience the wonders of Lady Musgrave Island on the Southern Great Barrier Reef directly from Bundaberg in Queensland.

A new day cruise operator, Seahaus will commence operating from Bundaberg to Lady Musgrave Island in August, offering visitors the opportunity to snorkel with turtles, dive with Manta Rays and experience the Great Barrier Reef as part of a new ecotourism venture - the Lady Musgrave Experience.

Reef preservation, conservation and education is top of the priority list as part of the new day tour, the first of its kind to be established in the region in over 10 years.

“Lady Musgrave Island is unique in that it's the only coral cay island on the Great Barrier Reef with a navigable lagoon which means it's like a massive aquarium for visitors enabling up close and personal snorkeling and diving experiences,” Rick Matkowski, General Manager Bundaberg North Burnett Tourism said.

“This premium day tour will not only make the reef more accessible to visitors both locally, interstate and internationally, but will also play a pivotal role in the education and preservation of one of the Seven Wonders of the World,” he said.

“We are dedicated to environmentally, sustainable tourism for the Southern Great Barrier Reef – it is a delicate balancing act; protecting this stunning natural asset we have on our door step, educating visitors on the importance of the reefs preservation and providing a quality, high end tourism product,” Mr Matkowski added.

The Lady Musgrave Experience
The Lady Musgrave Experience will begin operations in late August with day trips departing the Port of Bundaberg just four hours north of Brisbane. Snorkeling, island walks and glass bottom boat coral viewing tours will be available to passengers and included in the price with introductory and certified dives available at extra cost.

Lady Musgrave Island is pristine 14 hectares coral cay in the Southern Great Barrier Reef and has reef, island, coloured corals, marine life, flora, fauna and turtles to experience. The Lady Musgrave Experience is owned by Seahaus Pty Ltd, a luxury private and corporate charter company from Brisbane.

Bundaberg is accessible by daily flights operated by Virgin Australia and QantasLink, rail, coach and car and is the home of the largest concentration of nesting sea turtles on the Australian mainland and the most significant loggerhead population in the South Pacific at Mon Repos.
