Sydney Modern To Boost City’s Cultural Tourism

Sydney Modern Project
Tourism & Transport Forum Australia (TTF) has welcomed the Art Gallery of NSW’s announcement of the winning architect and new concept plans for the Sydney Modern Project.

“I congratulate the Art Gallery of NSW and Tokyo-based architects SANAA on the stunning concept design for the gallery’s new expansion project, Sydney Modern,” TTF CEO Margy Osmond said.

“When completed, Sydney Modern will join a world-class group of nearby iconic attractions, including the existing Art Gallery of NSW, the Sydney Opera House, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Royal Botanic Gardens, showcasing Australian art and culture.

“The transformation of the Art Gallery of NSW will serve to enhance Sydney and NSW’s reputation as an international arts and culture hub.

“As it stands, cultural and heritage visitors to NSW spend around $8.3 billion every year.
“Projects like Sydney Modern will go a long way to boosting the State’s cultural tourism appeal.

“I applaud the Art Gallery of NSW for their efforts and thank the NSW government for providing the funding to enable the design process for the transformation of this critical cultural institution.

“We now urge the federal and state governments to demonstrate their commitment to our arts and cultural institutions and favourably consider critical funding for projects like the Art Gallery of NSW’s Sydney Modern Project,” she said.

The Tourism & Transport Forum Australia (TTF) is a national, member-funded CEO forum, advocating the public policy interests of leading corporations and institutions in Australian tourism, transport and aviation.
