On Thursday 21st August, lucky guests aboard our Oz Whale Watching BBQ Lunch Cruise were witnesses to a very special event - the first baby whale of the season!
Alongside its Humpback mother, the calf was heading north and while calves are generally born further north in warmer waters due to the whale population expanding we are seeing many exceptions to these rules!
Judged to be 1 to 2 weeks old by our resident whale watching cruise director (and self confessed Whale Tragic) Biggles, the calf was about the same size as its mothers head - as you can see from the photo on the left!
The crew and guests all witnessed this when baby and mother did a synchronized double breach as we made our way back towards home. This was definitely the photo of the season - and bad luck to Biggles who unfortunately missed it! Mum also head-slapped and pectoral-slapped, obviously teaching her new calf some tricks!!
And in honour of this special occasion we are offering a half price special on all of our Mid Week Whale Watching BBQ Lunch Cruises!!
That's right - a 50% discount on all Lunch cruises departing on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday.
