Enjoy Champagne Breakfast With Koalas at the Jewel in Townsville North Queensland's Crown

Magnetic Island
Magnetic Island in Townsville North Queensland is renowned as an island paradise; known for its laidback lifestyle, endless walking trails full of wildlife and numerous hidden beaches and bays with all of the amenities and conveniences of the mainland, making it the perfect escape, a place of discovery and a chance to reconnect with mother nature.

While the quiet calm of the 23 beaches and bays is appealing for an afternoon lazing on the beach, the island's bays are all connected by scenic walking trails with lookouts boasting world class views and the chance to spot koalas and other native wildlife in their natural habitat.

The Forts Walk in Horseshoe Bay is one of the better known trails to spot one or two of the koalas who make up Northern Australia's largest colony of koalas in the wild and it presents the added bonus of taking in some of the island's military history as you trek along the trail with gun posts, ammunition stores and observation towers still intact from WWII.

Enjoy a Champagne Bush Tucker Breakfast with the Koalas at Bungalow Bay Koala Village where local rangers will guide you through the events of the morning beginning with a greeting of native guava champagne on arrival. The chef cooked breakfast is set within a unique purpose built setting amongst native trees and a setting typical to outback Australia. During the course of the morning you will be able to cook your toast over the fire, make jaffles and cook them in the burning coals as well as being greeted by native Australian animals including Koala's, crocodiles and snakes

The Island is the perfect launch pad for reef based activities. Reef trips, diving charters, sea kayaking, sailing and fishing charters are all available. The Island also is well equipped for other water activities, including jet-skiing, with the majority happening at Horseshoe Bay.

Swimming is a must on Magnetic Island with calm tropical waters sheltered within the protected bays. While Florence, Radical and Arthur Bays are somewhat off the beaten track, these secluded areas allow keen snorkelers an opportunity to walk off the beach and discover the fringing reefs.

Looking for something a little different? Why not try your hand at coconut bowling at the Bungalow Bay Koala Village, or if you would rather spectate, head to the toad races held every Wednesday night at Hotel Arcadia.

Those looking to party should head to the monthly Full Moon Down Under Party held at Base Magnetic Island. Join with locals and internationals, in crowds of up to 2,500, dancing on the beach until dawn to the sounds of internationally renowned DJs.

If you're a keen fisherman or would just like to test your skills, there are plenty of great spots to cast a line, including the historic Picnic Bay jetty. Exotic tropical fish and marine life flourish in the surrounding coral reefs and tranquil waters, meaning tight lines are a common occurrence. Chartered fishing trips are available for those wanting to fish the hot spots.

To get you started, try the convenience of an apartment at Peppers Blue on Blue located right on the harbour with room service, pools and a renowned restaurant all on site. If you prefer to have a space all of your own, you won't be disappointed with the holiday homes and bungalows available through Best of Magnetic.

Getting to Magnetic Island has never been easier with regular car and passenger ferry's departing every day and local's specials available year round.
