Spotlight on: Opera in the Outback, 4-7 October 2012

 

A clear moonlit night. A rare outback bushland setting. The dame takes the stage, and her voice soars through the natural outdoor amphitheatre, treating hundreds of guests to a performance of beauty, humour and drama. Just once a year, Opera in the Outback at Undara turns this award-winning natural tourist attraction into a cultural wonderland.

Being 'out back' doesn't mean dressing down - guests emerge from their tents, campervans and caravans in full black tie regalia, creating an enchanting atmosphere.Beyond the purpose-built stage, which in 2012 will host performances by Attori and Sydney company Opera Bites!, there are walking tracks leading to peaceful waterholes, a renowned 'bush breakfast' site, and of course, the incredible lava tubes, carved millennia ago as this incredible land came into being.

Located approximately two and a half hours drive south from Cairns, Undara offers guided tours of the lava tubes, relaxed camping grounds with friendly wallabies and a fine dining restaurant.
