Festive celebration presents eco-friendly lanterns, festive snacks and traditional games in Singapore
Marina Bay Sands is excited to roll out its first Mid-Autumn Festival at Marina Bay Sands, adding one more fascinating location downtown for the public to spend this traditional festive season. Spanning across two evenings at the Event Plaza, on 29 and 30 September, guests will be treated to a bayside extravaganza with specially designed eco-friendly lanterns and an exciting program line-up exquisitely put together from 6pm to 11pm.
This year, Marina Bay Sands will be celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival against the beautiful city skyline as guests bask under the full moonlight. The celebration will kick off with a majestic Chinese War Drums performance. The Event Plaza will be transformed into a carnival, complete with live entertainment and food stands offering mouthwatering treats such as the local Hainanese Chicken Rice and Laksa on the Bay and traditional Dragon Beard Candy. Eight exhilarating festive booths will be set up to enhance the joyous mood as families enjoy activities such as traditional mask making, palm reading and paper fan calligraphy.
Another sight to behold will be the 40 eco-friendly lanterns made by LaSalle College of the Arts students placed at the walkway of the Event Plaza. These artistic lanterns are weaved together using only recyclable materials that were accumulated during various recycling drives at Marina Bay Sands. The materials include Marina Bay Sands plastic water bottles, aluminum cans, foam blocks and old magazines.
In continuity with the integrated resort’s green initiatives, Marina Bay Sands holds this competition with LaSalle students in hope to create awareness and inspire the young generation to protect the environment. Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for two of their favorite lanterns. The panel of judges in determining the third winner comprises of a representative from Marina Bay Sands, LaSalle College of the Arts and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). These winning pieces will be displayed on property following Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. Prizes include a three days two nights’ stay with the hotel and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands shopping vouchers worth up to S$1,000.
On the day of the carnival, the public can purchase a voucher booklet worth S$100 for just S$50 at the ticketing booth. It will consist of food, games and photography vouchers and is perfect for families for the evening. To add on to the atmosphere, Marina Bay Sands will be handing out complimentary LED lanterns at the Event Plaza to allow the public to fully experience this Chinese traditional season in an eco-friendly manner.
Said Mr. Mark Juliano, Senior Vice President of Marketing of Marina Bay Sands, “This is the first time Marina Bay Sands is ushering in the Mid-Autumn Festival on such a grand scale at the Event Plaza. This is one of the most important festivals in the Chinese calendar and this year, we are creating a unique experience with lots of activities at the Event Plaza for families to spend quality time together. Our Event Plaza recently hosted Marina Bay Sands’ inaugural Sands Fruit Festival and it is the perfect outdoor venue conceived for family and mass activities such as the Mid Autumn Festival.”
Local MediaCorp artistes are also invited to perform individually for half an hour at 7pm and 9pm over this festive weekend. Live deejays will be present to provide visitors with live entertainment and great music. Guests will be able to take part in the games on stage with the personalities and learn more about the art and history of the Mid-Autumn Festival. They also stand a chance to walk away with Marina Bay Sands SweetSpot signature mooncakes
