The Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway is known for its cultural, historical, natural, recreational and scenic Attractions. There are two scenic drives making up the Scenic Byway, Needles Highway great for sightseers and motorcycle enthusiasts and joining the Iron Mountain Road. Needles Highway winds through small granite tunnels and pine forest under a vista of granite spires popular for rock climbing.
Rapid Attractions
Rapid City is an historic and scenic base from which to discover the huge variety of Black Hills attractions. Visit Hill City, a small mountain town, home to shops and wineries or ride the 1880 Train, a scenic vintage steam train through the heart of Black Hills. The spectacular Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Custer State Park, Badlands National Park and Spearfish Canyon are also open year round. Crazy Horse Memorial is a cultural project paying tribute to the North American Indian. The Mountain carving in progress is the largest in the world.
