Last week I enjoyed an overnight stay at this 4-star Victorian boutique hotel at 22 Centennial Avenue, Chatswood. Fully refurbished to reflect a bygone era while incorporating modern conveniences and personalised service, the hotel provides tranquillity with all the convenience needed for a Sydney visit.
For me, its location was particularly convenient. I was travelling to Sydney to attend a theatre performance that evening, and staying in Chatswood meant I could leave my car behind, walk to the nearby Metro station and travel easily into the city.
A Chatswood Hotel with a Fascinating History

The hotel's later refurbishment has carefully preserved this distinctive identity. A major refurbishment was undertaken in late 2024, with the property reopening in early 2025 as Silkari The Charrington at Chatswood. The refurbishment introduced contemporary accommodation and modern hotel conveniences while retaining the period-inspired character that makes the property so individual.
Today, the 4-star Victorian boutique hotel combines old-world charm with modern comfort. Leadlight features, decorative plasterwork and period-inspired interiors create a nostalgic atmosphere, while contemporary facilities, air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi and personalised service provide everything expected of a modern hotel.
This balance between the past and present is what gives The Charrington its personality. It is not simply accommodation in Chatswood; it is a hotel experience designed around the charm of a bygone era while remaining practical for today's traveller.
My Heritage Superior Queen Room

The room featured a queen-size bed, lounge area, kitchenette with sink and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, making it equally suitable for a longer stay or a short overnight visit.
It was fully air conditioned and equipped with a television and complimentary Wi-Fi. One of the highlights was the large balcony overlooking Centennial Avenue, providing a pleasant outdoor space to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
The room also provided a coffee machine and tea-making facilities, with complimentary continental breakfast included as part of the stay.
For my overnight stay, it provided everything I needed in a comfortable and well-appointed setting.
The Courtyard Café and Continental Breakfast

My complimentary continental breakfast included tea, barista-made coffee, cereals, toast, juice, yoghurt and fresh fruit. It was a simple but satisfying selection, with enough variety to suit a leisurely breakfast before heading out for the day.
Having breakfast at the hotel was particularly convenient after my overnight stay, allowing me to enjoy a relaxed start to the morning without having to search for a café elsewhere in Chatswood.
The Courtyard Café also adds to the hotel's intimate boutique atmosphere and provides a pleasant space for guests to sit, relax and enjoy their morning coffee.
Reception and Lounge

The lounge is a comfortable place to sit and relax, while reception provides a more personal arrival experience than the larger, more impersonal lobbies often found in city hotels.
The atmosphere throughout the public areas complements the boutique nature of The Charrington, creating a hotel that feels individual and intimate rather than corporate.
Convenient Chatswood Location

For my stay, the hotel's proximity to Chatswood Metro and railway station was particularly useful. I was in Sydney to attend a theatre performance and could simply walk to the station and catch the Metro into the city. It was an easy alternative to driving, avoiding both traffic and the difficulty of finding city parking.
After the performance, I returned to Chatswood by Metro and enjoyed the convenience of having my accommodation nearby.
An Ideal Base for a Sydney Theatre Visit

Staying in Chatswood gave me a quieter place to stay while still providing straightforward access to central Sydney. The combination of boutique accommodation, local dining and shopping, and convenient Metro connections makes the hotel a practical base for exploring Sydney or attending an evening performance.
Tranquillity with All the Convenience

The hotel has a sense of tranquillity and individuality, yet it is close to everything a visitor is likely to need. Chatswood's restaurants, cafés, shopping and transport are nearby, while Sydney CBD is readily accessible by Metro and train.
Inside the hotel, modern conveniences ensure that guests do not have to compromise on comfort. Complimentary Wi-Fi, air conditioning, contemporary bathroom facilities, coffee and tea-making facilities and personalised service complement the hotel's distinctive boutique setting.
My Overnight Experience

The Heritage Superior Queen Room gave me plenty of space to relax, while the large balcony overlooking Centennial Avenue was an appealing feature. The complimentary breakfast at the Courtyard Café provided a convenient and enjoyable start to the following morning.
Most importantly for this particular visit, the hotel's Chatswood location made travelling to my theatre performance in Sydney remarkably easy.
I enjoyed being able to stay somewhere with a distinctive personality rather than a standard modern hotel environment, while still having all the facilities needed for a comfortable overnight stay.
A Boutique Stay with Character

Its fascinating history, Victorian-inspired design and old-world atmosphere have been thoughtfully combined with contemporary accommodation, modern conveniences and personalised service.
My Heritage Superior Queen Room was comfortable and well equipped, the Courtyard Café provided a pleasant breakfast experience, and the hotel's convenient Chatswood location made my evening theatre trip into Sydney simple and stress-free.
For travellers searching for a Victorian boutique hotel in Chatswood, accommodation near Chatswood Metro, or a quieter alternative to staying in Sydney CBD, Silkari The Charrington offers an appealing choice.
For me, it was a particularly convenient overnight base for enjoying a night at the theatre in Sydney, followed by a comfortable stay in a hotel where the charm of a bygone era remains very much part of the experience.
