| Las Originales Cafecitas |
While attending the Colombian Travel Seminar recently at the Kimpton Margot Sydney, I was given a small 35 g packet of Las Originales Cafecitas Galletas con Café, Colombian coffee cookies from Café Quindío.
It may have been a small packet, but it delivered a delicious taste of Colombia.
For anyone who enjoys coffee and biscuits, these little coffee-flavoured cookies are a delightful combination of two simple pleasures. After tasting them, I could immediately understand why Cafecitas are described as the perfect accompaniment to a cup of coffee.
A Taste of Colombian Coffee Culture
Coffee is an important part of Colombia's identity, and Café Quindío has transformed that much-loved ingredient into something a little different with its Cafecitas coffee cookies.
Las Originales Cafecitas are made with Colombian coffee and have been created to complement coffee drinking. Café Quindío describes them as having the flavour of 100 per cent Colombian coffee, together with a touch of milk and vanilla. Their soft texture is designed to melt in the mouth, while the delicate coffee aroma adds another layer to the experience.
The cookies are also distinctive in appearance, being shaped like tiny coffee beans. This makes them particularly appropriate for a product that combines Colombia's coffee heritage with the simple pleasure of a biscuit.
My Little Packet of Cafecitas
The 35 g packet I received at the Colombian Travel Seminar was just the right size for a small taste.
Opening the packet, there was an inviting coffee aroma, followed by the unmistakable appearance of the miniature coffee-bean-shaped biscuits.
I enjoyed them, and my verdict was simple: delicious.
The coffee flavour is noticeable without being overpowering, making the biscuits particularly enjoyable for anyone who appreciates the taste and aroma of coffee. The combination of coffee, milk and vanilla creates a pleasant sweetness, while the soft texture makes them an easy and enjoyable treat.
They are the sort of biscuits that encourage you to reach for another one.
Made for Coffee Lovers
Cafecitas are particularly well suited to enjoying alongside a cup of coffee.
There is something especially appealing about pairing a coffee-flavoured biscuit with coffee itself. Rather than competing with the drink, the biscuit reinforces the coffee experience, creating a simple combination that would work equally well as a morning treat, an afternoon indulgence or a small dessert.
The official Café Quindío product information lists the Cafecitas in 100 g and 200 g formats, as well as a display containing eight individual 35 g packs.
That individual 35 g format would also make them particularly convenient for travel, meetings, conferences and events.
A Small Biscuit with a Colombian Story
What I particularly enjoyed about receiving the Cafecitas at the Colombian Travel Seminar was that the biscuits were more than simply a snack.
They provided a small edible introduction to Colombia.
Travel seminars are an opportunity to discover destinations through presentations, conversations and the people representing them. Food and drink can add another dimension to that experience, allowing visitors to discover a destination through its flavours as well as its landscapes and attractions.
In this case, a small packet of coffee cookies provided a taste of Colombia's famous coffee culture.
The product is manufactured using ingredients including wheat flour, corn starch, powdered milk, egg and macadamia, according to Café Quindío's product information.

They would also make an appealing little gift for travellers wanting to take home a taste of Colombia, or for coffee enthusiasts looking for something different to accompany their favourite brew.
For me, however, the enjoyment came from discovering them unexpectedly at the Colombian Travel Seminar.
A 35 g packet may not sound like much, but sometimes a small taste can create a lasting memory of a destination.
My Verdict
Having been given the opportunity to try Las Originales Cafecitas Galletas con Café at the Colombian Travel Seminar in Sydney, I was impressed.
They are delicious little coffee cookies with a distinctive Colombian character, a pleasant coffee flavour and a soft texture that makes them very easy to enjoy.
For coffee lovers, they are certainly worth discovering.
And if you happen to be travelling in Colombia and come across a packet of Las Originales Cafecitas, my advice is simple: give them a try.
You may find, as I did, that one small packet provides a surprisingly delicious taste of Colombia.
