Air India has officially selected the new Terminal 6 (T6) as its future home at John F. Kennedy International Airport, one of the world's busiest international gateways.
The relocation forms part of the airline's long-term strategy to enhance every stage of the customer journey while supporting its rapidly expanding international network.
Until the move takes place in 2028, Air India will continue operating its daily non-stop services between New York and both Delhi and Mumbai from Terminal 4 using its flagship Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 aircraft, featuring newly upgraded cabin interiors and premium onboard services.
Once operations transfer to Terminal 6, passengers can expect a far more seamless airport experience from check-in through to boarding.
Bringing Star Alliance Airlines Together
One of the biggest advantages of Air India's move is its proximity to fellow Star Alliance airlines.
Terminal 6 has already been selected by numerous leading international carriers, including Air Canada, All Nippon Airways, Austrian Airlines, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS and TAP Air Portugal, along with Aer Lingus, Cathay Pacific, Condor, JetBlue, Kuwait Airways, Icelandair and Norse Atlantic Airways.
For travellers connecting beyond New York, this means easier same-terminal transfers and more convenient onward travel throughout North America and beyond.

One of the most exciting features of Air India's arrival at Terminal 6 will be the opening of its first flagship Maharaja Lounge at JFK Airport.
Covering approximately 9,100 square feet in a premium post-security location overlooking the terminal's vibrant shopping and dining precinct, the lounge will showcase the airline's signature Indian hospitality.
Guests will enjoy elegant interiors, premium dining, comfortable relaxation spaces, business facilities and world-class amenities designed to reflect the new Air India brand.
The New York lounge follows the successful opening of Air India's signature Maharaja Lounge at San Francisco International Airport and further strengthens the airline's premium offering across North America.

The ambitious redevelopment will create one of the world's leading aviation hubs through the construction of new terminals, upgraded passenger facilities, simplified road access and improved transport connections.
Designed by JFK Millennium Partners, Terminal 6 places passenger comfort at the centre of every design decision.
Travellers will benefit from short walking distances between security screening and departure gates, intuitive wayfinding, spacious waiting areas and modern technology throughout the terminal.
The development also features New York-inspired shopping, outstanding dining experiences and more than 60 permanent artworks created by local and international artists, giving visitors an immediate sense of place upon arrival.
A Sustainable Airport for the Future
Terminal 6 has been designed with sustainability as a key priority.
The terminal will feature sustainably sourced construction materials, rooftop solar energy systems and highly energy-efficient operating practices.
North America's first common-use all-electric aircraft ground support system will significantly reduce emissions while improving operational efficiency.
The terminal is also pursuing internationally recognised sustainability certifications, including LEED, Envision and SITES.
