Fiji Airways Opens a New Tropical Gateway with Direct Gold Coast to Fiji Flights

Fiji Airways
A new era of international travel has arrived for Queensland holidaymakers, with Fiji Airways launching its inaugural direct service between the Gold Coast and Nadi, creating a seamless connection to one of the South Pacific’s most sought-after destinations.

The historic first flight today marks a significant milestone for both Fiji Airways and Gold Coast Airport, providing travellers with easier access to Fiji’s stunning islands while also opening convenient onward connections to North America, the Pacific and Asia.

A Historic Day for Gold Coast Travel

On 11 June 2026, Fiji Airways officially commenced its first-ever direct flights between Gold Coast Airport and Nadi International Airport, strengthening tourism ties between Australia and Fiji.

The inaugural flight from Nadi touched down on the Gold Coast at 11.30am AEST carrying a distinguished delegation that included Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, Queensland Airports Limited Chief Executive Officer Amelia Evans, and Fiji Airways Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Paul Scurrah.

The arrival was celebrated with a traditional ceremony honouring the bonds of Vanua, culture and community, reflecting the deep cultural connections that continue to strengthen between Fiji and Australia.

The first outbound flight departed the Gold Coast just one hour later, beginning a new chapter for travellers seeking quick and convenient access to Fiji’s tropical paradise.

A Short Flight to Paradise

Fiji Airways
One of the biggest attractions of the new route is its convenience. The direct flight from the Gold Coast to Nadi takes just three hours and twenty-five minutes, making Fiji one of the easiest international holiday destinations for Queensland travellers.

From pristine white-sand beaches and crystal-clear lagoons to luxury resorts, family-friendly accommodation and world-class diving, Fiji offers experiences for every type of traveller.

With 333 islands scattered across the South Pacific, visitors can enjoy everything from romantic island escapes and wellness retreats to adventure holidays, surfing experiences and authentic cultural encounters.

The journey itself begins with Fiji Airways’ renowned onboard hospitality, allowing passengers to experience warm Fijian service before they even arrive.

Expanding International Connections from the Gold Coast

The launch significantly strengthens the Gold Coast’s international aviation network and positions the city as an increasingly important gateway for overseas visitors.

Operating three times per week on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the service is flown by Fiji Airways’ modern Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, featuring eight business class seats and 162 economy class seats.

The route will contribute more than 53,000 seats annually and provides Gold Coast travellers with convenient one-stop access to major international destinations through Fiji Airways’ Nadi hub.

Popular onward destinations include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Honolulu and numerous Pacific Island locations, creating exciting opportunities for both leisure and business travellers.

A Tourism Boost for Queensland

Fiji Airways
Tourism leaders believe the new route will deliver significant economic benefits for Queensland.

The Gold Coast continues to attract growing numbers of domestic and international visitors thanks to its famous beaches, theme parks, dining scene, hinterland experiences and major events calendar.

The new direct connection makes the region more accessible to travellers from North America and Canada while simultaneously offering Queensland residents a convenient gateway to Fiji and beyond.

As preparations continue for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, expanded international air connectivity is expected to play a vital role in supporting visitor growth across South East Queensland.

Why Fiji Remains a Favourite Holiday Destination

Fiji has long been one of Australia's favourite overseas holiday destinations. Its combination of tropical beauty, friendly locals and diverse accommodation options continues to attract couples, families, adventure seekers and luxury travellers alike.

Visitors can spend their days island hopping through the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands, snorkelling colourful coral reefs, exploring traditional villages, enjoying sunset cruises or simply relaxing beside turquoise waters.

The destination also appeals to travellers seeking shorter international holidays, with direct flights making weekend escapes and extended tropical breaks more accessible than ever.

For Gold Coast residents and visitors, the new service removes the need for connecting flights and offers a faster, more convenient route to paradise.

Special Launch Airfares Available

To celebrate the launch of the new service, Fiji Airways is offering special introductory fares on selected travel dates.

Travellers can access discounted return fares between the Gold Coast and Nadi during the promotional period, making this an ideal time to plan a tropical island holiday.

The sale runs from 10 June to 14 June 2026, with travel available through to 15 May 2027, subject to availability and conditions.
