The 48th Annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras launched in spectacular style under its bold 2026 theme, ECSTATICA, transforming Sydney into a global stage for queer celebration. Over 20 unforgettable days from 13 February to 1 March 2026, Australia’s largest LGBTQIA+ festival pulsed with energy, visibility and pride.
The official launch saw the Progress Pride Flag rise above Sydney Town Hall, marking the powerful beginning of a festival that celebrated connection from streets to screens, from protest to party. Under the banner of ECSTATICA, the city became a beacon of joy, activism and unity, reinforcing Sydney’s reputation as one of the world’s leading LGBTQIA+ travel destinations.
More than 120 theatre performances, music events, pool parties, debates, art activations and community gatherings will fill the city with colour, sound and celebration, culminating in the world-famous Mardi Gras Parade.
A FESTIVAL PROGRAM THAT CELEBRATED PRIDE, HISTORY AND COMMUNITY
Throughout the festival, Sydney’s most iconic venues hosted a dynamic and diverse program that showcased the depth of Australia’s LGBTQIA+ culture.
Ultra Violet lit up City Recital Hall with a dazzling celebration of LGBTQIA+ women and allies, transforming the auditorium into a dreamscape of performance and sensuality. At National Art School, Black Cherry placed trans and gender-diverse voices centre stage inside the historic Cell Block Theatre.
Fair Day returned to Victoria Park as Sydney’s largest free, all-ages LGBTQIA+ event, uniting headline performers, drag royalty and more than 200 community stalls in a vibrant outdoor celebration.

The much-anticipated Mardi Gras Debate will return to the State Library of NSW tonight in partnership with Sydney Writers’ Festival, sparking spirited discussion and sharp-witted exchanges.
Comedy lovers will pack the Enmore Theatre for Laugh Out Proud, presented by the Sydney Comedy Festival, while theatre audiences will revisit defining moments in LGBTQIA+ history through Perfect Arrangement at New Theatre, Newtown and The Normal Heart presented by Sydney Theatre Company at the iconic Sydney Opera House.
ICONIC POOL PARTIES, ART AND NIGHTLIFE EXPERIENCES
Hot Trans Mardi Gras will elevate trans and gender-diverse artists, and Sissy Ball at Marrickville Town Hall will once again became the Southern Hemisphere’s largest vogue ball, delivering fierce runway moments and ballroom brilliance.
The Mardi Gala Ball will transform Walsh Bay Arts Precinct into a sensory feast of couture, cuisine and connection, while Mardi Gras+ will extend celebrations across Greater Sydney with markets, exhibitions, sport and cabaret events.

Accessible Viewing Areas ensured inclusivity remained central to the event, while Taylor Square’s Glitter Club delivered an electrifying close-up Parade experience.
The celebrations continued into the night with After Party with Blak Joy at The Loft, UTS, before Laneway transformed The Beresford and Hill Street into a joyful street party finale on Sunday 1 March.
