Clover Moore’s connection to Mardi Gras spans decades. She shared that she became the first member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly to attend the parade in 1992, beginning a tradition she has proudly continued every year since. Today, she said she particularly enjoys marching alongside Member for Sydney Alex Greenwich, highlighting the strong political and community support behind the event.

Since becoming Lord Mayor in 2004, Moore noted that the City of Sydney has remained a steadfast supporter of Mardi Gras, contributing financial backing, preparing the city with colourful banners, and officially launching celebrations each year with the raising of the Mardi Gras flag at Sydney Town Hall.
