Riding High: Mt Perisher 6 Chairlift Opens with Cultural Celebration and Olympic Spirit

Mt Perisher 6 Chairlift
A New Era for Perisher’s Slopes

Perisher has officially unveiled its newest upgrade—the Mt Perisher 6 Chairlift—ushering in a new chapter for the resort’s alpine experience. Designed to enhance mountain access and comfort, this high-speed, six-person chairlift is more than just an infrastructure improvement—it’s a statement of Perisher’s ongoing dedication to quality, culture, and community.

A Welcome to Country in the Heart of the Snowy Mountains

The launch ceremony began with a powerful Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by Ngarigo Elders, acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land. The Bega Rivers Dance Group followed with a moving cultural performance, grounding the event in respect, heritage, and connection to Country.

Community, Commitment, and Construction

The official ribbon cutting at the Mt Perisher 6 base station brought together a cross-section of the local community. In attendance were stakeholders, government representatives, snowsports athletes, and the hard-working construction crews who built the lift through rugged summer heat and icy autumn mornings. Their efforts paid off with a state-of-the-art lift now ready to serve thousands of snow enthusiasts each season.

A Boost for Tourism and the Local Economy

Mt Perisher
Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Hon Kristy McBain MP, praised the project’s regional impact. “This project is a fantastic example of how investment in regional infrastructure can drive economic growth and create local jobs,” she said. “The Mt Perisher 6 Chairlift is not only a boost for tourism, but a long-term win for the Snowy Mountains community.”

Supporting Champions of the Snow

Olympic silver medallist and proud Perisher local Matt Graham also shared his excitement. “With the 2026 Winter Olympics just around the corner, the opening of Mt Perisher 6 couldn’t come at a better time,” he said. “It’s a world-class lift that will support athlete training and help inspire the next generation of Australian winter sports talent.”

Looking Forward on Higher Ground

Mt Perisher 6 is now fully operational, offering faster access to some of the resort’s most iconic terrain. With increased uplift capacity and improved reliability, this addition is set to enhance both the everyday skier experience and the resort’s capacity to host world-class events in the years ahead.
