A New Era of Road Trips in Queensland

Queensland has launched a major new tourism campaign encouraging travellers to pack the car, hit the open road, and explore the Pacific Coast Way – now branded as Australia’s Holiday Highway. Running between the Gold Coast and Cairns, this spectacular route showcases some of Queensland’s most iconic beaches, islands, and attractions.

The campaign, delivered by Tourism and Events Queensland under the Destination 2045 tourism strategy, highlights the affordability, adventure, and unforgettable experiences road trips can offer.

Exploring the Pacific Coast Way

The Pacific Coast Way is the longest of three signature road-trip routes across the state, joined by the Great Inland Way and the Matilda Way. Travellers are invited to journey through coastal towns, national parks, and unique attractions along the highway, from the Big Pineapple on the Sunshine Coast to the Golden Gumboot in Tully.

With ready-made itineraries available on Queensland.com, travellers can easily plan multi-stop stays and enjoy diverse experiences, including whale watching in Hervey Bay, adrenaline-filled theme parks on the Gold Coast, and relaxing island escapes off the central coast.

Partnerships Making Road Trips Easier and More Affordable

For the first time, Tourism and Events Queensland has partnered with NRMA Group – including NRMA Parks and Resorts and SIXT – as well as Expedia Group to provide special deals on accommodation and car hire. Selected routes and travel dates even feature waived one-way car hire fees with SIXT, making road trips more flexible and budget-friendly.

Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Craig Davidson says the campaign aims to make driving holidays seamless and affordable, while encouraging visitors to stay longer and explore more.

Celebrating Queensland’s Tourism Icons

The campaign not only highlights Queensland’s natural wonders but also its famous roadside icons and cultural attractions. From charming local towns to stunning national parks and sun-soaked beaches, each stop offers a chance to create lasting memories and connect with Queensland’s unique spirit.

Minister for the Environment and Tourism, Science and Innovation, Hon Andrew Powell MP, says the campaign will boost tourism growth and inspire travellers to rediscover Queensland through the joy of road trips.
