Tourism and Sustainable Transformation – Sri Lanka’s Nationwide Movement for Change

In 2025, Sri Lanka will make history as it becomes a regional leader in sustainable tourism during the global celebration of UN World Tourism Day. Under the theme Tourism and Sustainable Transformation, the Sri Lanka Tourism Expo 2025 will unite the country in an unprecedented movement that blends culture, conservation, and innovation.

With just 77 days to go, Sri Lanka is set to showcase how responsible travel can power economic growth, protect the environment, and celebrate cultural heritage.

Key Events of Sri Lanka Tourism Expo 2025

The celebrations will stretch across the nation, bringing together students, professionals, and global tourism experts:

Island-wide Inter-School Tourism Competition – Junior Tourism Clubs inspiring the next generation of sustainable tourism leaders.
Sri Lanka Tourism Travel Mart (Sept 27–28) – A showcase of must-visit destinations, travel experiences, and tourism businesses.
Tourism Job Fair & Career Expo (Sept 27) – Career opportunities in Sri Lanka’s growing tourism industry.
International Tourism Research Conference (Oct 1) – Presenting groundbreaking research in eco-tourism, cultural tourism, and green travel.
International Tourism Leaders’ Summit (Oct 1) – High-level discussions shaping the future of tourism in Asia.
Launch of Ruhunu Ring (RR) – A 50-year visionary roadmap for Sri Lanka’s tourism future.

This movement is powered by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the University of Colombo’s Sustainable Tourism Unit, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management (SLITHM), Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB).

The initiative is further strengthened by the support of leading tourism associations including SLAITO, THASL, CHSGA, and ASMET.
