Reviving History: Support the Lachlan Valley Railway and Bring the Branch Line Back to Life!

All aboard, history lovers and railway enthusiasts! The Lachlan Valley Railway (LVR) is calling on the community for support to breathe new life into a cherished piece of Australian heritage. The mission? To reopen the next 19 km stretch of the historic railway line between Cowra and Woodstock for heritage steam and diesel passenger services by 2025.

A Journey Through Time

The Cowra to Blayney railway line has been silent since 2007, marking nearly two decades since a train last pulled into Woodstock. In the past three years, thanks to the incredible support from Cowra Council and the local community, LVR has successfully restored a portion of the branch line from Cowra to the Lachlan River.

Now, LVR is ready to embark on the next phase—transforming the railway into a fully functional heritage line that connects history, tourism, and community.

Imagine the Experience

Picture this:

Board a steam-hauled heritage train at Cowra Railway Station.
Travel through stunning countryside landscapes, en route to the historic gold-mining town of Woodstock.
Stroll through Woodstock's charming streets, admire its historic architecture, or relax at the iconic Royal Hotel, famed for its delicious food and ice-cold drinks.
Return to Cowra by train, rounding out the day with a meal or drink at one of the town’s welcoming restaurants, pubs, or clubs.

This project is more than just reopening a railway—it’s about creating unforgettable experiences, strengthening community connections, and showcasing the rich beauty and heritage of the Cowra region.
